MAM SS or HiBoost

And it should be clarified, that the car above is a MAM kit, but that is not the SS kit, that is the Thumper kit.

Although to my knowledge all the IC pipe routing is fairly similar for all 3 MAM kits, just slight differences.

Juan, why did you have the turbo facing the other way? Does it benefit? - Just wondering

The way it is designed is to keep the stock air filter box in its original position as we sell this kit in the Capella/626 in other countries. This way it will fit the Proteges with the stock air filter and we were thinking on a CARB certified kit.

Here is a picture with the stock air filter in a Japan spec Mazda 626.

wtf.. is someone trying to rip you off Juan? is that electrical tape over the HiBoost logo on the intake pipe?

No way, we sell the kit in South America under a different brand name.

These cars are sold brand new with a turbo upgrade from some Mazda dealers.

just out of curiousity -- what do they use as the ECU for those?? and what do you run those kits at -- hp and psi

Is the MAM SS Turbo Kit compatible with an auto protege 5? I know that Juan from Hiboost has an automatic version of the kit so I was wondering if the MAM SS will work on autos.

yes, you'd just have to keep the boost fairly low.... but that is the same for all kits

Thanks RyanJay for the info. Since there is a limited boost level for auto protege 5's then is 6spi on the MAM SS kit the highest boost level for autos or is a lower boost level necessary so the auto tranny doesn't blow?

Thanks In Advance.

its generally considered for all the avaiable protege turbo kits that between 5 and 6 psi is the maximum you can safely go on an automatic transmission. Certainly you can add a tranny cooler but I'd not go higher than 7 psi. There are of course other factors involved, such as not going over board on "neutral drops", burnouts or other such tranny abuse that come into tranny longevity.

The kit is exactly the same as the US version (P5/MP3) except for the intake system. Same turbo, same Haltech F10X, same intercooler and they run at 8 psi.

The intake is different in these engines and make a little more HP. The cars make 225 WHP at 8 psi.

There is one customer in San Diego running our kit for almost a year on an auto P5 running 7 psi and 200 WHP. His tranny is holding fine.

Our kit for automatics now comes standard with a boost controller, pre mapped, to get the boost, not as hard on lower RPMs, which is what hurts the tranny.

Juan,
I'd be interested in that boost controller. (Is the boost controller able to change boost up as well as down - sorry for the dumb q, eventually i'd like to be able to up the boost once supporting mods are in place to help the tranny.

Also, Is that mapping for the haltech? I have the f10, will that still work with the new boost controller? If so, could i get a copy of that as well, plz? (i'm auto).

Cheers,
niv

Boost controllers cannot make it go down.
