Perchance this is not going to happen, but I think it would make things much easier for those of us interested in purchasing a forged block if both Mental Addiction and ********** would post as much information as possible on their forged 2.0 FS-DE blocks. I believe this will help future buyers make their decision. If anyone else agrees with me, please say AY.

The poll is to see what forum members think about the two blocks, please only cast your opinion if you have had some sort of experience or have extensive knowledge on the block.

Street unit: they use Pauter rods and Wiseco pistons. MAM doesn't claim who manufactured their H beam rods. Plus you would probably receive it in less than half the time.

MAM does more work to the block, but ********** uses more expensive internals (now). Soon ********** will have brand new (not rebuilt) built blocks in stock. These cost a little more, but there would be virtually no wait. With MAM, you have a lot of options and can have pretty much anything done that you want, but you will have to wait for it.

Its really a trade-off. Maybe some one else could tell you more. The thing is: anyone with a MAM block will say MAM and anyone with a ********** block will say ********** (of course). Also, these guys will not comment on each others blocks much. All they will say is that both shops do good work and that they do not know the specifics of each others' blocks. While somewhat frustrating, this is probably a good thing since everyone is pretty much friends here.

I know that's probably true, that's why I thought each company could point out the details of their blocks. For example, on the MAM website, they claim to "address the crank walk issuse by having a second thrust bearing machined and installed". This is something that ********** does not claim about their blocks and therefore makes the MAM block unique. However, ********** might go through that process with their blocks as well but might just not post it under the details on the website. It would be nice to know more information like this and what advantages are had with each block.

Maybe...look into HiBoost's internal forged build kit and machine your own block...for less than half the money....

most local machine shops can do this...many here where i live do mostly V8's, but they are we have a few who do smaller motor machining.

no offense but how many people have a street unit block? I think the MAM ones are already proven

This is true. I have not seen or heard of anyone running **********'s block yet, while many members are already running MAM's block.

Anyone want to chime in...

I would like to hear from people with SU blocks also. Come on people, there has to be someone!

What kind of comments do you expect to hear? It blew up, it held 42psi, its shiney, it ate my child?

These blocks are no different than what you can have done at any competent local machine shop.

nobody has a SU one that I am aware of so I think you will be waiting a while

I'm happy with my MPI block. No one seems to consider them or HiBoost when it comes to blocks. Manley rods and gas ported CP pistons. I got a lot of head work done too. Not trying to take away from the ones you listed, but just expanding your options.

Ken from protegegarage is offering a built longblock for $2995+core. I guess we have more options, plus MAM is discontinuing their built motor.

MAM does quite a bit of machine work on their blocks. They also have a .020 overbore which is critical in a built engine. If you use standard bore pistons without any machining of the block. You risk running too tight of tolerances and grenading your newly built expensive engine.

Note, this is NOT a MAM engine.

We will no longer be doing built motors. There's a lot to consider when building the FS right. 95% of current machine shops are stuck in 1950.
As for more expensive enternals, yes, Pauter is more for the price, but our rods will hold the same power if not more. If it's a price thing I could raise the price of our rods to match the Pauters.

how come MAM?

I wonder who makes the cheapest built block. I know its a retarded question and typical of most protege owners, but, I'm not trying to break any land speed records with this thing. Just for alil more security with the addition of some bolt-ons. I don't enjoy the nagging feeling in the back of my mind, that my engine might blow at any moment at 9.5 psi with intake, fmic, and turboback exhaust.

No NO it's not a price thing!! Don't change prices!! I wish I could have came into the scene two years ago, than I could have already had a MAM built engine and just be waiting on the new parts!!

why are they no longer offering them?

its quite simple, they have had issues with the motor builder and I think he is just sick of listening to everyone b**** about how long it takes, I think I drove him nuts (peep) lol

seriously the waiting was way to long and its not worth the hassle from a company standpoint
