MAM FMIC Dyno results

you picked up 20whp from just a FMIC upgrade at the same boost levels?? That's a big increase.
Other FMICs on the Mazdaspeed have seen similar gains in terms of Peak Gain. As I recall the ION FMIC offered similar gains in terms of the peak gain and hiboost is up there somewhere close. (largest difference between before and after dyno).

Need you take a look at the stock MSP SMIC again Matty? (poke) That thing is crapola.:)

ou forget, I owned a MSP .... iknow the intercoolers aren't terribly efficient but 20whp is a bit much IMO. I just wanted to make sure we were talking about a straight swap with no other variables.

nope nothing else was changed, but also remember that this was done in AZ where heatsoak will own that pitty witty pos stock IC :)

but Rich is right I am pretty sure the ION one showed somewhere around 20whp as well

I dont think just adding a FMIC would gain 20whp at stock boost(6psi-6.5psi)
Because I am put Hiboost FMIC on first ( without any other mod) the power gain was very little.
All the power gain will come after you get a CAI or a downpipe.

lol cai doesnt do jack. the has been dyno proven that u gain around 15-20whp from the fmic at stock boost why are u guys trying to prove otherwise ?

The stock smic isn't that bad. I also find it hard to believe you gained 20hp from just putting a different intercooler.

well he is spiking to 7, staying at 6 compared to his 5psi from before. that plus the improved efficiency would make 20whp i thinks. plus the more boost you run the more the front mount will become noticeable. using a joeP mbc with my stock IC at 12psi I am slower than 9psi with my front mount. (my new stockboost) either way im sure he must be happy with it.

The Mental Addiction kit also comes with a shorty intake and cone filter guys... so Andy went from bone stock at 137 on that dyno, up to 157 with the full Mental Addiction FMIC kit that includes SRI with cone, SPAL fans, and BoostSciences BPV.

The numbers would have been even better than 20whp in my opinion too... I got off the phone with Beau after the car put down 137, and it was late in the evening a few months ago (dyno is outside so it had to be chilly). When Andy ran his car for the after runs, it was easily mid to high 80's, so it was a really good test for how the intercooler dealt with the heat. I think if the before runs had been done in that heat, the numbers would have been lower and would have fallen off a lot over multiple runs.

If I'm not mistaken, the power was almost the same for all 3 after runs, and they weren't spraying the IC between them either.

yup, we initially ran the car ( stock ) in mid jan. then with the MAM FMIC kit last weekend. All three runs with the kit were back to back, no spraying, didnt even fully stop the car. slowed it down to 2k for a second, then got back on it. There is nothing else done to the car.

I noticed the dyno image is a bit of a download.

How about a dyno graph image that is 50x smaller without sacrificing any image quality ;)

It is very good, however, in the stock run the car was not taken to the limit in the rpm range. It was only taken to 5200RPMs. If taken to 6200 it would have made over 145 WHP.

You need to compare the difference in the 5200 rpm line to be realistic.

I thought that some SMICs are already proven to add 15whp? so are you guys incredulous with a 20whp gain with a fmic

Agreed. I didnt see that until you pointed it out. Beau drove the car on the dyno the first time, guess he's a little shy when it comes to driving other peoples cars. Regardless, there are noticable gains and it is a well put together kit.

Indeed, I still think that the average gains are going to be about 20whp on a stock setup even though your baseline wasn't taken to redline. Like I mentioned before... it was so much hotter out for your after runs.

still waitin for mine :(

Our fans will be here very soon. You will be stoked man, the kit is really awesome when it is all in there... I was much happier with the finished fit on everything than I was with my iON.

lol. cant wait. ive been wanting and saving up for a fmic since i joined this site over a year ago haha
