Major Brake Maintenance

Hey guys. I seem to having a hell of a time finding anything out on the web, so I come to you all for some assistance. Well, apparently my brakes are pretty much crap (they certainly look it). I took the MP3 to the dealership to do some troubleshooting and was told that at all 4 points the calipers, rotors, and pads would need to be changed... to the tune of $650 for the front, and the same for the rear. So I do some hunting for aftermarket parts and think I can just roll on into a Pep Boys and get some quality stuff installed for cheap, right? Apparently I am dead wrong.

I'm mainly looking at EBC rotors and Hawk pads, but how do I handle the calipers? I can't find a single aftermarket brand (I'm not looking at $1k big brake kits, not that rich yet) that I can just order and have installed. Does anyone know of any? I hate to say it but the OEM prices are... outrageous, and it costs more for a left one than a right? I'm confused. Is that my only option?

If you haven't guessed by now, I'm not the most mechanically inclined fellow, haha. I just need some damned brakes ! (help)

Any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

you might email the folks at MAM corksport and protegegarage. they would likely be able to help you out, especially if you get the rotors and pads from them as well.
be sure you can find a place to install them for you before you buy though, unless you are going to try to install them yourself. sometimes it can be hard to find a decent place that will install parts you bring them for less than an arm and a leg.
i know the msp has different brakes than other proteges but i dont know if thats true for the mp3

I got all my calipers from www.rockauto.com the fronts are Raybestos semi-loaded calipers...about $40 each rebuilt and the rears are A1 Cardones, again rebuilts for $60 each. I had looked for hours online looking for a better deal, but none could be found. I paired these up with Ebay xdrilled/slotted rotors and KVR pads, overall cost was very reasonable.

keep in mind that shipping might be pricey, for me to ship 4 calipers to Ontario was $76, but I got them in 5days.

I have a set of calipers from my P5 that I replaced with the msp ones. They are in perfect coniditon.

Fronts only but a friend should have a rear set of calipers. Send a PM to bala de plata. He replaced his today from his P5 and they are also in perfect condition. I can work out a good price for them.

LOL@ the stealership.

I paid less than that for my willwood 4-piston big brakes.

try e-racer.com for wilwoods and protegegarage.com for rear msp brakes.

Thanks for the advice and links guys, they're very helpful. I think I might just grab parts from protegegarage.com and rockauto.com (calipers) and see if there are some reputable shops around my area that can install them.
