Can anyone suggest an alternate, "nicer looking " solution for front plate mounts? That ugly black oem "rubber boot" is quite hideous & really mars the look of the front of the car. Was just wondering if anyone has found a better way to go.

I wonder how the police would feel about it being behind the grill, after all it IS there... Ive seen a few vipers or the like that had the license plate angled back under the bumper, barely visible,....

Junior - I like it! What kind of mount are you using to get it to sit there over the grill? Did you fab it yourself or buy it?

@Wetsuit - I have a feeling they'd be happy to cite me for it LOL - you are supposed to be able to read the plate number , I think.

"When I bought the car, I asked the dealer not to install the front plate bracket.
So all I did was flip the bracket upside down and bolted it thru the mesh with 2" long bolts.
Behind the mesh, I put a 1.5" diameter washer for support and clamped it with a lock washer and nut.
I also put a 0.5" thick rubber washer on the bottom screws between the bracket and the grill,
So that the bottom of the plate bracket would stayed off the painted bumper to avoid scratching."

Damn, dealer already mounted mine & drilled two nice big holes in the bumper for it.. grr. Will hafta try this trick , looks easy enough & results are nice.
Thanks for the headsup!

I got lucky, my dealership I went through didnt mount the front, but there are two little indentations where the bumper says "screw in here" basically. Ive been driving without a front license plate since I started driving and never had any issues. I wonder how they would feel about a european style license plate, the skinny type ones, or does it have to be the standard type...

CBC where in socal are you, im in Murrieta

Just a few miles inland from Laguna Beach. I used to drive w/no front plate, but had heard they are cracking down more. Just a fix it ticket, but still a hassle I don't wanna deal with. Maybe I can minimize the look of those fugly holes i my bumper w/ some clear silicone . I would think that as long as you have the front plate visible, it shouldn't matter how it's mounted, so the Euro ones should be fine.

i have mine mounted on the grill just like the pic of the red 3Z....i used the factory plate bracket and attached it to the front bumper with toggle bolts....works fine and looks a hell of a lot better (thumb)

when you say "factory plate bracket" do you mean the black plastic thing that they attach to your bumper, or just the "trim ring" bracket that goes on top of the plate when you attach it? hmm..& maybe my terminology is wrong. =)
It does look good mounted lower & I would think wouldn't interfere much with any air intake issues. I hate that the US car market has to kowtow to gov't standards for plate mounting , with more often than not look butt-ugly, versus Euro styles.
Such is the cost of freedom....heh

got my euro tag from a company i found online out of FL cost 55 bucks for everything bracket and shipping and all. you can have anything you want number or word wise put onto it

yes the plate bracket that the dealer gave to me when i bought the car...not the little cheap crappy plastic ring that goes over the plate....and it is so small that it would never bother the air intake....

well I tried out flipping the plastic LP mount upside down & holding it over the grill. Look like it might just work. Seems like a trip to ACE hardware is in order for the weekend.
