Lx/dx bj spoiler install

Installed my Spoiler a few days ago...Wanted to give my Protege a "sportier" look with a nicer third brake light.

Spoiler cost me $22 (brand new would have cost me about $260)

Paint cost me $100 at my local favorite auto body shop. They sanded the old white paint off, and repainted it to my factory color.

I fed the third brake light wire through the trunk and connected it to the wire present for the LED brake light...which of course every time I hit my brakes, the third brake light lights up.

did you remove the steel bracket from inside the left of the trunk lid? if not it's only held with 2 10mm nuts and removal will balance the weight again.

Nah, I never removed a bracket. It seems to work alright, Ill take another look tomorrow.

Looks good. An alternative is to get an ES trunk out of a junkyard. Of course, standard Mazda rust is a major issue around the mounting points of the spoiler to the trunk.

I drilled two holes instead of three, since the third stud is just a screw. i used a rubberized coating over the holes before i mounted the spoiler on. I didn't want to pay to have the trunk painted since it would probably cost in between the 250-350 dollar range, and was only wanting the spoiler added on...and the hassle of lining up the trunk to the body lines and getting the latch to match up.

Ill still keep an eye on the rust portion, but with new rubber-gaskets that go in between the spoiler mounting points and the trunk it should be a decent water-tight seal.
