LSD Question

Why don't all cars come with LSD's? Are they more expensive or do they put more strain on the engine?

I bought mine from Competition Parts at Mazda. It's a Quaife. It's not a direct bolt in project, tiny mods of a stud, but not too involved. Never on ice but dry is sweet...

What all was involved in installing it? I've been researching the Mazdaspeed LSD, and I wanted to know if I was going to have to purchase a WHOLE bunch of stuff, or if it would be (basically) a direct drop in.

P.S. MFG list on the Mazdaspeed LSD is around 560. Their cost around 350.

The directions and the install are straight forward. You might consider a street clutch while it's open. A little grinding of studs is neccessry but not tough. NOW, I bought the Quaife via Competition Parts at Mazda in the US. Note that the MazdaSpeed LSD is not a Quaife and thus I cannot comment on the installation of the Super KK that is in the MS.

I was just about to say that. All the dealerships in the country have been telling everyone that you won't be able to buy Mazdaspeed parts for the cars that aren't Mazdaspeeds. But who knows, hopefully someone will find a loop hole and we'll find it too.
