I did a quick search but couldn't find anything, Is there a company making an LSD that will fit our P5 tranny ?

Thanks

LSD = Limited slip differential

i don't know all the technical bits, but on our cars, when you corner weight is transferred to the outside wheel. since we have an open differential, power goes in the direction with the least resistance. Since there is less weight on the inside wheel, all the power goes there and it starts to spin. With the LSD, it transfers power to the wheel with traction or just balances it out (i'm not sure). Either way, it make cornering a lot better by keeping power to the wheel with traction.

am i right?

an lsd should fit in an auto... that shouldnt be a problem

to make an lsd easy to understand thing of an open diff as just power going to one wheel the whole time, the other doesnt do s***. when u have an lsd as soon as the right tire starts to loose traction then power is transfered to the left so power will be going to both wheels

lsd = crucial in drifting

Limited Slip Differentials are more useful in drag racing for better precise power delivery.

It takes the tires that have the most friction against the road and applies more hp and tq to those tires. LSD isn't crucial to drifting but can help a large ammount. LSD tranny's to me are more crucial in drag racing. Another term that older hotrods use is Posi-Traction this may help you in the future.

I am not sure about LSD's in p5's most the time its a costly mod but on the p5 it may be a swap out peice I am not sure.

LSD's wouldn't be a HUGE benefit in an auto because of the fact that an auto is slower to engage in gears and you just wouldn't see a money to benefit ratio. Again I do not know how much it cost to obtain LSD in a p5 but this is just a general aspect for all cars.

from what I remember, you can't fit the LSD in the Auto.

there are 2 available for the Manual: Tokigo(?) from the MSP ($500ish) or the Quaife ($1100ish)

wtf... when u learn somthing about drifting then talk to me cuz yes lsds are crucial in drifting, remember drifting u must have "push" from the rear and if your running an open diff power is not being aplied to both wheels equally and you are not getting the push u need. mmmkay

actually under normal driving both wheels are getting power its when one spins that the power then transfers solely to one wheel.

Well actually, I do a lot of milleage, and here in Quebec, winter can be a pain.
I drove a sentra Se with sport package(with lsd) last week in the snow and wow what a difference !...so I'm looking into getting one for my P5...and I guess one one an MSP would just be fine for that application.

I had the Mazdaspeed LSD installed in my p5 last week. HUGE improvement.

Probably one of the best mods I've done. Biggest difference is you can give it much more power through turns now without understeer. Also, seems to be a bit better in the snow.
