Lowered springs rubbing, squeaking, rattling

I just installed a set of coil-overs and when I move the steering back and forth, they make a clunking noise. After a week of driving it got worse. The top of the strut shows obvious friction damage. I lubed the top of the coilover and took it for a drive. The steering was lighter and less noise. What gives? I made sure the painted part of the strut points at 10 o'clock on passenger side and 2 o'clock on drivers. Help, I hate rattles!!!!

What type of coilovers and what type of rims do you? Size of wheels and offset? If you have the ground controls then if you could show us a picture of what it looks like installed.

I'm using G-force coilovers. Basically a Skunk2/ Ground Control knock-off. Quality is OK. 17" Konig Holes rims with 205/40/17. The Holes have a +45mm offset so no problems there. I jacked the car and there is a lot of obvious friction between the inside top of the front struts and top of the spring plate on the coil-over unit. The whole strut twists a lot front to back as the steering is turned front to left. I assume that this is normal and with regular springs they would flex instead of rubbing back and forth and making clunking and squeaking noises???? Has anyone else with coil-overs had these same experiences?

I had the same issue when my car was stock the real annoying knock in the rear suspension when I go over small bumps in the road and it doesnt help that I have a gravel drive way. turns out after replacing a number of different things it was the strut. The rear strut was blown I could make it rattle with my hands so replaced that and noise went away!!!! But after recently lowering it about 5 inches on ground control the same noise has appeared (keep in mind still stock struts) but ive checked the struts and they are not rattling like the one bad one would. Ive checked all nuts to make sure they are tight. So at this point I think it is just tension some where in the rear suspension.

Also it could be the that complete strut its self with the spring on it is loose like mine if I were to drive over a pot hole and my wheel fell in the shock would fall down and the spring would come out of contact with the top of the strut so it could be the spring rattling if it doesn't have pressure on it.
