Lost Fob - anyway to locate?

:
2013 CX5-GS, AWD
We've lost our spare fob. I'm pretty sure its in the house, but no one can remember where they saw it last. With all the electronics on-board is there any way to try and track it down using the RFID (sort of like a find my iphone type of application!)

I'm guessing that there isn't (but should be!) I'm just wishing out loud that there was. What a pain! we've been going through all our coats, drawers, bags, closets and can't seem to find it in any of the obvious places. We had a 2 day power outage 2 weeks ago and the family kept going out to my car to charge their phones, I'm sure one of them put it somewhere stupid and not obvious! I better check the couch next!

When (if) I do find it, I probably will have to invest in a tile or something.

You might want to attach a Wireless Tag to it.

They can act as lost item finders up to 700 feet away.

EDIT: I know this doesn't help your current issue but in the future it will.

If yu had some type of automatic direction finder that could tune into the frequency given off by those fobs for walk away mode.. lol

I assume you have already tried to see if the car starts without the fob (the fob might be hidden inside the car)?

I know this will sound stupid, but..

Try looking in the non-obvious places, pantry, medicine cabinet, refrigerator, etc.

Like I said sounds stupid but it has happened in our house. Item in hand, open fridge, place it on shelf while getting something.

Yeah I tried that. Next I'm going to take all of my wife's many purses and bags and put them on the backseat and try again. She's says she's gone through everything, but you never know!

Totally agree, when we find it, it will be in a totally weird spot. We had no power for two days, who knows where it got put in the dark. I'll keep trying.

As an aside, the dealer can reprogram a new key and in doing so, will disable the old key. I'm not going there yet. They day I do that, the "lost" key will turn up. Doh!

I vote under the fridge, cat dropped it off the counter in the dark, then batted it around until it slid there... [emoji77]

Put the car in each room of the house and see if it starts. You wanted to remodel the house, right? (eekdance)

Pick one room and search throurly but, start with the vehicle, then garage, the house rooms. Never give up:-)

You know how it's always in the very last place you think to look? Here is the golden rule for finding lost items:

Make a list of places you would look, starting with the first and ending with the last. Cross off all but the last place and then look there! (wink)

Sorry, but I hope you find it soon.

I FINALLY FOUND IT! After searching the house (and finding more junk that I can believe) It was in the last place I looked LOL

It was in my daughters Mickey Mouse backpack in our coat closet. Now I know that backpack hasn't been used in quite a while and it was several layers down in my archaeological dig, so I have zero idea how it got there.

Next topic. Anyone have any experience with the tile key locator LOL!

Great news. Here's an idea. Next time you could just grab all the coats and backpacks and bring everything inside the car. If the car starts then you know the key is in that pile of stuff, haha. Then remove half of the pile and repeat the process. Sure beats searching every pocket.

That's a good idea and shows your ability to think a little outside the box. If you have a family dog or any little tykes, it wouldn't hurt to put them in there too in case one of the non-speaking members of your family ate it, LOL! (rofl2)

I was going to do that next.

I was also trying to figure out a way to get the car inside the house, you know move it from room to room until it started. LOL

Actually, I wonder if you could rig up an attanea such as a coil of coax and bring that into the house....possibilities...seriously, I should glue it to the back of my phone, that way, I can use find my iPhone to also find my keys. At least know if they were at home (for a time, I was thinking I left them elsewhere)
