Looking to buy a Protege, please help.

Hi,
I'm looking for a used Protege, and am a little confused about the different model names. What's a Protege5? Is that very different from a Protege? Is there anything in the model name that designates it as a wagon? Mazda's website doesn't show any Protege, when did they stop making it? My budget is about $6000-7000, which model is best for me? I'd like a wagon model (but will consider a sedan) for kids in the back, manual trans only, as lightweight as possible (would that eliminate the top of the line ES model?), crank window is fine.

Great site to research cars....They stoped making the protege in 2004
the 3 took it's place.

they have the
Protege' ES,LX,DX you can these cars at around $7000 - $10,000
Protege5 the wagon ..Hmm don't know the figure that well I'm guessing $12,000?
Mazdaspeed Protege $12,500 -$14,000
