Looking at putting somehting together...

I have no affiliation with this company:

www.extrudehone.com

I would like to get the exhaust and intake manifolds AFM'ed. It looks like they will cost $3-400 for each part. If more are interested, it looks like the company does discounts for multiple parts...

Is there any interest in this?

Efficiency, and through efficiency, power.

Think about it, why does that TMIC make 20+ hp? It's not through cooling alone! A lot of it has to do with efficiency. The pressure drop is lower. If you've taken physics at any point in life you will understand that pressure drop is a parasitic loss. Smooth surfaces flow better. Less of a loss before the motor and less of a loss before hitting the compressor wheel is my goal. If the price is right, I may look at getting my impeller wheel done.

It's no bigger turbo or forged pistons to be certain. It's relatively inexpensive, and will make the other mods you do that much better. Look at their site a bit, mostly here:

Yes, of course. Reminds me of my old days of polished intake and exhaust manifolds for 4 port carburators, etc. Love my CX-7, and can't wait to get back to it and my my post middle age crisis. If "Bolt on equipment" will boost the HP and Torque by 15 -20% I'm all for it.

Yep, people still do it. It's good stuff... I like the EH process because it takes man out of the equation. Sit on one spot with the dremel tool long enough and it becomes an oval, not a polished circle. It also can get into crevasses that I could not.

It IS kinda pricey and you can probably take your manifolds to the local machine shop and they can do something similar for a fraction of the price. I figure if I'm going to pull the trigger I'm only going to do it once.

These are the STANDARD prices from extrudehone.com

Turbo impeller and housing $200 (!!!)
Intake manifold $495
Exhaust manifold $450

I am waiting to hear back from EH about a group buy for 5 and possibly 10 units. It says on the website 15-20% discount on orders over 4!

2-3 weeks is the turnaround. Two day can be done for a nominal fee.

I am new to this whole turbo thing... what would be the gain by doing this? in HP or MPG? What other things can be done to increase HP?

Thank you...
Not that the wife probably would let me do it anyhow... seems like we have other things to spend the money on ;)

I hear ya about the wife, she nixxed my race car program before it got off the ground.

It (should) increase HP throughout, much like this graph of the top mount intercooloer upgrade.

For the same style of driving, you should see a slight increase in gas mileage. most notably you should see smoother power delivery.

I struck (in the process) a deal with the wife to limit spending on the 7 to about $2k over time. Figure $500 for the intercooler, $500 for a downpipe, $5-700 for the extrude hone, and another little bit for a fuel mgmt add-on + dyno time, and it will be very done to me. If only the stealerships would do the same to their cars for $2k.
