Hello every one. one of my friends is looking at a 87 NA Rx7 that needs a transmission and was wonder if anybody knew how much it would be. Ty in advance. (band)

He said the engine is good. there is some damage to the front right side of the car but it still runs great except the tranny.

the car... I only paid $500 for mine and the body is in awesome condition for the age, motor is newly rebuilt and everything else is kosher besides a few small things...

paid $500 for our 87 N/A RX-7 as a non-runner. we were prepared to rebuild the motor if needed, but it turned out only minor maintenance was needed to turn her into a runner. trannys a little rough (had to rebuild the shifter, the doorknob who took it apart last removed the shifter bushings...), and the synchros for 3rd gear probably should be replaced...
and there was minor body damage all around the car...

so i guess it really just depends on how bad the tranny is for your '87... if its only slightly rough like ours, and can be rebuilt easy... anything under $1k is actually a pretty good deal... if the tranny's toast... still try to keep total cost of car+tranny below $1k.

okay thanks every one. and the tranny is toast. and one more question how hard is it to change the transmission in a rx7??

not any different than that of any car...
get a compression test before purchasing to make sure the motor is good..

if you've got a lift and and tranny jack... a pain in the arse... but no moreso than any other rwd car.

if you have to use jack stands, crawl around on the floor, and use a regular jack... seven more of a pain in the arse... but still no worse than most any other rwd car :D

it can be done in a day, if you've got someone who's done a clutch before, and have the proper shop manual to show you where any hidden bolts may be :)

I changed the tranny in my rx and it took a day... a friend to help here and there is welcome if you can get someone to give you a hand. I had to use jack stands and crawl under mine, a b**** but it got done.
