Hello all,
I'm looking into getting a 93 Rx-7 normally asperiated with 150k. Its in decent shape but I really don't know anything about these engines so wanted to ask for some advise before I bought it. I know it stock and it starts runs and revs smooth, stops good.

What are the main things that go wrong with this car and how can I check it. I consider myself a pretty knowledge about cars in general but don't get too complex on me.

Also what is a fair price for this vehicle?

Thanks - Justin

I don't think they made a N/A 93 . I had 2 88 Rx7's and the compression was bad on one at 68,000 miles and the other at 163,000 its all a matter of how the previous owner drove or maintained them . Check for white smoke from the tail pipe . compression Check at a mazda dealer that knows rotaries . Bad sign if it takes a few cranks to start then blow alot of smoke . May be a lube job on the apexes to build the compression . I rigged a toggle switch to my feul pump relay to cut fuel and turn her over allowing the oil pump to lube the apex's to get mine to start . No money for fixing the thing at the time . Mazda wanted like 5 grande just to replace the engine . The 93 was my dream car but after having two 88's and getting to know that 13b I kinda feel like its an old girlfriend that I had alot of fun with but don't want to have to deal with again .

Remember never to pay a mechanic to change your timing belt on your Rx7 . its better to do it yourself its real easy and will save you a lot of money and time in the long run .

It's definitely not stock if it's running N/A. Third generation RX-7's only came in Sequential Twin Turbo setups. If it's running well in N/A form, and you aren't looking for an amazingly fast car, you might be able to use that as leverage since it's technically missing a pretty vital part of the car. I know you can run them N/A. I have a buddy who runs his N/A simply for reliability reasons and he doesn't need a dragster for his daily driver. So yeah, if I were you I'd try negotiating his price way down on that note alone. You can get new stock turbos rebuilt from BNR. They aren't too expensive and they are amazing turbos. Depending on what else has potentially been done to the vehicle since he said it was stock yet there are no turbos, they should just bolt right up.

I can personally vouch for the reliability and power of the 2nd gen turbos, and I have a buddy with a 3rd gen with BNRs in it.
