Fortunately, I don't know what the interior of an echo looks like. Care to enlighten us?

they, the echo, and a few others from what I have seen...have stuffed the guage pod off into the center of the car.....looks like crap....they might as well just put a steering wheel and peddles on both sides too.

this picture sux but its the best i could do

echo's can get 51mpg on the highway!!!!! but its the only good thing it can do

I think the Toyota Echo is one fugly car!

As far as having the gauges in the middle, it really leaves me scratching my head. It doesn't seem like it'd be any more convenient in terms of where your eyes need to look when driving and it leaves an awkward empty spot behind the steering wheel...nope I don't like it at all.

the advantage to placing the gauge cluster in the middle is it makes it easier to manufacture cars for right and left hand drive markets. they can use one dash layout, and just swap out the gauge surround, as opposed to fabricating a whole new dash assembly. plus they can make all the parts under the dash compatable as well, and they ultimatly save on production cost. i wouldn't really say that they are copying the echo, as tehre are a number of other cars that do this also. (bwm z8 is the first to come to mind)
