I don't know if that ever happened to anyone else, but keep that in mind.

DO NOT USE AN IMPACT DRIVER ON THE LOCK NUTS.

Yeah, i know, it says so on the box but i ignored the warning and broke two of them.:(

It didn't show at first, but after a few days, one of the nuts cracked in half. I found the top half in the driveway, the bottom half was still on the wheel.

Luckily, my dealer gave me a new set free of charge.:)

Just thought it was worth mentionning.

damn dude!! you are only supposed to tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft-lbs....you damn sure don't need an impact for that....

in fact...using an impact on your wheel lugs is a good way to warp a rotor. seen that done MANY a time.....careful!

Not to mention..you wack that sucker on with an impact and then have a flat out in the middle of nowhere....and you KNOW that is ALWAYS where you are when you have a flat....what you going to plug the impact into to get those suckers off with?? just something to think about.

Get a decent X wrench.....even a chrome one....you and more than easily enough put your wheels on with enough torque and remove them with one of those.

He said impact driver, you don't plug that in to anything! You impact it, With a hammer or mallet, and if you know anyone who warped a rotor with an impact driver they bent the axle too, and I'd sure like to meet them.

From my experience

An impact driver is also known as an air impact tool or torque drill like they use at a professional tire shop. It runs off air in a compressor to spin the driver.

Not sure if this is what he was talking about or not. Just my $.02

I agree. Had a flat in the middle of no where on my Civic. No signal on the cell phone and my ex had taken the lug wrench out of my car to pry something. Don't even remeber what, now. Anyway. After about a 5 mile walk in 90' plus heat I went and bought an extra wrench and kept it in the spare tire well.

I had two of mind break as well. The problem was when I used them with my steel winter rims. The depth of the steel was less than the stock wheel, so the lug came out futher and poped the top right off the locking nut. The dealer gave me a new set under warranty.

So beware of this also.

I have what YOU describe as an impact driver....and NEVER IN MY LIFE have I EVER seen anyone attempt to put on lug nuts with one....nor can I ever imagine why anyone would ever want to....and on a board like this you will hear lots of people use different terms for different things.....

it is a reasonalbe asumption to believe he is talking about an IMPACT WRENCH...seeing as how its common practice for people and tire shops to use them on your wheels....not to mention...I have seen PLENTY of locknuts and their keys screwed up useing them...

AND BTW....you do NOT have to brake an axel to warp your rotor....not on a front wheel....the two are differnt pieces.... and you CAN warp one by over tighening it unevenly.

That is exactly what happened to me, with the winter rims.

And...Yes i was talking about a impact wrench or impact driver, whatever it might be called.

I found the mazda locks to be cheap!
When I tried removing my rims the other day (to paint my calipers) They all came off except for the front drivers side. It was as if the factory used some sort of impact tool to install it. (Rim was never removed before)
I have delt with tools in the past. Usualy a nut will round but not a nut and socket at the same time. But it happened to me. I rounded the lock and the key.
neuromancer had a good Idea. I should take the set back to dealer as under warrenty. (I did get that bastard of my wheel after 45 min. It involved a 10# hammer. Now the key seems permently stuck to the lock:D )
