Live traffic updates?

Sort of an update.

Spoke to Mazda at length today, and they have admitted there is a problem. They went on to say their technicians are looking into it but at present there seems to be "No Fix"

So I've made all these visits to have the unit assessed then replaced, and have been in dispute with both Mazda & my dealership, only to learn at this stage there is no solution.

Regretfully Mazda customer service are not being very helpful. They tell me they are looking into the matter, and they will log a new case number, but will take 3 to 5 working days to get onto their system, what they don't tell me however is what they are going to do about it!

Next time I replace my car, I will go back to a stand-alone version.

Nice idea, but in reality what is involved, plus may invalidate my Mazda warranty? Suspect if I give them half a chance to kick out any warranty issues Mazda may just invoke some rule or another.

Questions:-

1) What is involved to remove the current unit?

2) What is there on the open market that would actually fit, including harness connections etc.

3) Would I get the functionality with blue-tooth and my I-pod?

4) Finally the market value of the Tom Tom option is around 400. Bet your sweet bippy Mazda wouldn't offer a refund.

What is needed now is someone at Mazda to actually deal with this, accept there is an issue regards the equipment supplier and to deal with it, then of course advise their customers. Needs to be done PDQ as we are paying for the "service" Plus confidence in the brand is tumbling.

Update July 2nd 2013.

Mazda customer services have written to me and confirm there is an issue.

"I can confirm this is a situation which is being investigated by both my technical colleagues here in the UK and Europe. Once we have further information detailing a resolution plan, this will be communicated to our dealer network"

So there we have it! It is a recognised issue and they are seeking a fix.

Personally I'm happier now as they seem to be on the case.

I have had a problem accessing live services for several month, had the nav unit swapped out once by the garage but made no difference. The car went in today as there were people coming from Mazda, Tomtom and Panasonic to look at my car and 2 others. Unfortunately I was not able to stay with the car so do not know exactly what they did but I was told that they sent lots of data back to Holland and received an update for the nav unit. Seems to be working now but will have to keep an eye on it for the next few days.
I was told the problem was related to the nav unit getting into a loop while looking for live services. It seems it try’s several times when it is first switched on and then again after about 10 mins but if it does not get a signal due to pore reception it will not try again for another 24 hours, during this time there is no way to make it try and reconnect. Seems the update applied stopped the 24 hour wait.

Interesting post above.

You would have thought that after replacing Four units in mine, and awaiting some action from Mazda regards a possible Fifth replacement they would have included me on some form of beta testing.

Among the e-mail traffic (last one was unanswered) I suggested I was more than happy to take part in any trials or initiatives in order to seek a resolution.

I'm tempted to bill them for the hours spent on Sunday in avoidable queues.

Because my car was just about the first to 'discover' the problem over a year ago, it was going to be used by a team from Europe (TT +..) but they are using a mazda technician's car (I think) who has the same problems and is in Scotland.

After six weeks of the service performing as it should, late yesterday the unit is again failing to connect.
Today the same again.
Looks like the unit needs to be changed, will wait for now until the first service in October.

Welcome to my world!

Still waiting to see who is going to take ownership after having four units replaced, all I get is Tom Tom telling me to see Mazda, and then Mazda saying they are looking into it.

Thought may as well "Bump" this one up to the top.

I have just put this onto the Tomtom Forums as I'm now getting desperate. I don't even know if I'm awaiting unit number 5 as I'm getting vibes that there is no fix to date, and until there is no point in yet another replacement. However, nobody is coming up with such a statement, it seems to be the general consensus and nobody wants to make any form of commitment.

Cases 1-431593799 and 1-500182005 refer.

I spent 27k on a car with a so-called traffic management system and it is not fit for purpose.

Last Thursday 1st August around lunch time I joined my local motorway M5 at Junction 23 and immediately entered a queue where I sat (on the hottest day of the year) for THREE Hours. All because a caravan turned over. As this was in my own vicinity, had traffic been working, then this could have easily been avoided and I could have even applied my own local knowledge for a diversion.

My live services has worked for less than 6 weeks in total. I have had the unit replaced 4 times, and since June 26th not working. I renewed in December after my 3 month free trial, and have not had anything like any value for money.

I have posted on every relevant forum, complained to Tom Tom & Mazda until I'm blue in the face, and to be honest all I get are promises or passed from one to the other. TomTom keep extending my subscription which is pointless considering it does not work!

I have written to Mazda twice in the last two weeks on this, who have NOT RESPONDED at all, they had my money though!

Same with Tom Tom, several e-mails and finally last Friday when I phoned them up complaining (after 2 more ignored e-mails) they told me ONCE again to go to Mazda, who it seems are now ignoring me as they are not responding either.

Nobody seems to be taking ownership of this, TomTom tell me "it is hardware; see Mazda" and Mazda tell me "it is software see TomTom". WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS AND WORK WITH ME, THE CUSTOMER, TOWARDS RESOLUTION? OR AT LEAST LIAISE ON MY BEHALF WITH TOMTOM/MAZDA.

Two things I have learned, 1) Not to buy TomTom equipment ever again. 2) Not to replace with another Mazda.

I am posting this in public because neither TomTom or Mazda are not responding to my e-mails, so perhaps being vocal will have some desired impact.

Have had the same problem since I've got the car and watched as you guys who've been into the dealerships, had units replaced etc have struck out and suffered greatly! My car goes in for its first service next week and I will be lodging my complaint with them as I've had no service for about 2 months now. I've not missed it so much, as most of my trips have been local with work of late and I don't seem to get meaningful traffic info until I get onto the major roads. But I've been paying for it and until they resolve this, I won't be renewing live traffic when its up in October.

if they don't get a resolution, I'm giving serious consideration to replacing the unit with another manufacturers system.

My car will be going into Newport SW, so I'm sure someone on here has already been in there and they know about this problem?

This is the latest I've had...

'Mazda technical are still waiting for a response from the European team that came over to look at the Live issue.

Mazda UK were able to demonstrate the issue repeatedly, the European technicians took away all sorts of data but could not give any real conclusive response whilst here in the UK.'

My first reaction is, Poor excuse!

The truth of the matter is they haven't got a clue and as long as they can apportion blame elsewhere, seems like they will do so.

If they kept those that are affected in the loop and explain what is going on would help, but to get no response from e-mails or from the on-line contact us area only reinforces my disappointment further. OK I've ranted a bit, but the longer they leave this and more they are in denial, the worse it will look upon the Mazda brand.

It is clear either the hardware (Sanyo or Toshiba) maybe even TomTom themselves are utter rubbish, and Mazda should be voting with their feet. The problem is however we the consumer are beginning to get a jaundiced opinion of Mazda themselves.

I only keep a car three to four years, the other car a Mazda 2 and is ready for replacement, sadly we may be looking at other brands, not that there is anything wrong with the brand but the total lack of support I have had on a premier product may have a part to play in future decisions.

That's exactly the same thing Mazda Newport told me last week, clearly as Alex1706 states no-one seems to be taking clear ownership of the problem. Like others on here I have spent over 24k on a car that isn't doing what it should, I'm that pi****d off with it at the moment that I'm back to looking at BMW.

My live services have stopped working today, stuck in traffic for 20 mins coming to and from dealer to home, sat nav on.

Has anyone else had it fail today?

Dealer says its a TT issue.

... and Vodafone

I have Vodafone on my talktalk mobile, and I find the coverage easily the worse of the three providers I have, the other two are O2 and virgin, O2 being the best.

The only good thing about my phone is it gives me a good indication that the live service must be receiving a signal.

If you find you have constant buffering on My Services and Weather, then might be an idea to check your signal strength. To do that, go to settings, then Status & Information, hit the icon Version Information which takes you to another screen with loads of numbers and hopefully the serial number of the unit and your sim-card. Look for 4 black buttons at the bottom, chose the Network Button, and you will then get a bar chart and will be highlighted according to signal strength, if any of course.

If you get none of this welcome to my club!

I'll have another look Alex

When I tried to view my services all I got was the rotating circle busy? sign, after ten mins I threw in the towel.
this service isn't worth the hassle never mind paying 50 a year.

Sometimes my phone connects, sometimes not.

Sometimes the parking sensors work, sometimes not.

After nearly 5 years with my last xtrail, I don't recall having any issue, this scenario is very distracting from trying to enjoy what is a great car.

Was in Newport Mazda today and the information they are giving out is still the same. Went through the protracted have you done this, have you done that. Then they repeated the whole reset procedure again and the outcome is still no live traffic. Ho hum, but not surprised. The service manager showed me the pile of documents for other customers with the same issue, not impressed.

I too still don't have any live services....
I also have issues with my bluetooth phone system with a constant buzzing noise.
I also have issues with a shake in the wing mirrors.

I hope they get all these issues fixed asap so I can get rid of this car.... This car has the potential to be the best car I have ever had, but it is positively the worst car I have ever had, due to the endless list of issues and endless return visits to my local Mazda dealer. What a waste of money this car was.
