Live traffic updates?

I came upon an accident/really bad traffic last night so I switched over to the Nav screen and got this:

And when I pressed the View Map option:

So I guess it does work on mine since I've never really tired it out before.

So after several weeks of no live services, its alive and kicking this morning and works all the way to Bracknell and back. Wth. Reading all people's posts on here, its just so tricky to tell if this is a tomtom, mazda, mobile data or a.n others issue. Its a damn mess for sure.

Got a new card reader installed today... Spent 5 hours downloading updates and getting the sd card paired to the new card reader..... After all that, still no live services..... Not a happy bunny! Surely Mazda and TomTom between them have to admit there is a serious fault in this system and then get it fixed properly.

Assume that a new header unit in the dash was not under consideration?

In my case (all 4 of them) after calling TomTom customer support they have suggested every time will need a replacement unit, therefore I am surprised the card reader was deemed to be at fault. I guess TomTom didn't come up with that "fix"

my traffic only works when I have an active navigation destination. is that how it is supposed to work?

Yes. Most of the traffic issues are with European users. They don't use an FM traffic receiver like we do in the USA, they use a cell system and their head units have a SIM card in it.

Mine did it for a week before with the US version. Hasnt done it since though.

And therein lies our troubles. Sim card sealed into header unit, not accessible as with a mobile (cell) phone.

Also very unstable.

Had big issues with Live services after the initial 3 months free subscription. Mazda had ordered a new head unit after diagnostic test by Tomtom but live services came back to life, also the network connections started working and the sim card id /model id numbers repopulated so decided to stick to the original heads unit which has worked for the last month, instead of someone removing main part of headunit. However they went off again last week and only reappeared by trying the weather live sevice then saying I'd got a subscription and logging in with email and password, so time for Tomtom CS. After a lengthy telephone conversation to Netherlands(usual reset/turn off, reset to factory settings)today with a Tomtom customer service advisor, I got escalated to a TT engineer who tried to pair the sim card to my account, that seemed to work. They even agreed that some NB1 devices had an issue that was being worked on. Was asked to monitor and email any issues back to TT. Perhaps a fix will come out!

Had my cx5 since October and decided to pay for the live services last month.
Realised that the umbrella symbol was showing in the bottom left hand of my screen.
Contacted TomTom and I needed to check that my network and sim id was showing.
No network signal and no I'd on the unit.
Credit to TomTom they refunded my payment. They recommended a replacement unit.
Today on start up all the id ie imie and sim number are showing, this then after trying to connect for ten mins all goes blank?
Does the sim need re activation?
My experience of the live service was fantastic, the service really worked.
Will look at contacting TomTom for advice.

Hi Psam, Try 2 things- make sure information sharing is ticked as allowed, then try and load a live service --- weather? Tomtom will ask if you've got a current subscription and if so to put your email/password and the satnav should connect up to live services/sim card. Also worth checking to see in My Live Services if your subscription is showing correctly. On the information/network page does it show any bars on the graph/or connected?

Also just a heads up, got an email from Tomtom, new version of Europe map now available!

Yesterday my live services started working again...no reason why, they just did.
I wonder how long they will stay working for now.... I don't want to pay for a years subscription if I'm not gonna be able to use it..... Will leave it a few weeks and see if they are still working.

hi all
today my network started showing connected again?
3 bars and all seems well.
how on earth has this happened, is it the unit or a Vodafone issue.
really reluctant to purchase live again, as if it suddenly stops working I cannot see tomtom refunding me again.
will monitor the situation to see how long it stays connected.

Hi psam, mine did that... it started working all on it's own again then a week or two later it stopped again and hasn't been working for months now. I'm glad I didn't pay for the live services while it was working.

Hi Geoff
When did this take place, was it since the supposed repair by tomtom engineer which has been reported on the tomtom forums?
thanks

Hi Phil... I wasn't aware that there was a repair done..... My live services started working 18th May, they stopped again 24th May and haven't been working since. This is only the latest situation in the saga, they have been not working more than working since I got the car in January.

Is the sim card mentioned in this thread located in the head unit or the nav unit that has the SD card in it?

The sim card is in the same unit that has the SD card.

That surprises me, as every time I have had a replacement unit due to loss of live traffic, I have been advised by TomTom that the sim-card is in fact held within the head unit, therefore a complete replacement of the main unit is the only fix.

Same as with the trackers in my vans as they all have sim-cards which are within the head units themselves.

I'm happy to be stand & corrected however.
