Lip on spindle?

Hey guys. Was changing out my front wheel bearing (for the second time in a month) and when I put the new bearing on, I noticed some play. After taking everything apart again, I noticed a lip on the spindle of the wheel hub. I asked the guy at the shop about it, and he said that it was the first time that he's seen one like that. I can't seem to find a picture of a new one online so I was wondering, is this normal for our cars? Attached are pics of the spindle and lip in question. I was only re-doing the driver's side so I'm not sure if the passenger's side is the same or not.

I can't believe no one has answered you yet, I'm curious as to what the answer is.

If there is some play I'd replace the hub.

The reason you have the lip is because the inner bearing race spun on the hub. the only fix is a new hub and bearing.

It looks like you still have part of the inner race on the hub...you could try heating it, carefully dremeling it, but I agree with the above posts. With those grooves, I would just get a whole new hub and be done with it!

First, thanks for all the input. Tried to just put a new bearing back on, and there is some play. Looking at it, it looks like there is a small gap between the inner race (top part in the picture) and the wheel bearing. I think it's like Tiajaunatoad said and the inner race spun on the hub. *sigh* Where can I pick up a new hub? The only ones I can find online are for the rear. I've seen one on onlinemazdaparts.com, but I don't want to spend $170 on it. Are the rear and front hub interchangeable?

The fronts and rears are not interchangeable, but check rockauto.com. It looks like they have them for 116 each.

99% sure they will...just check to ensure it has the right number of studs, is for discs and has/does not have abs cog. i wasn't sure about a hub on ebay once and the seller helped me make sure it was right.
