Limp Mode, Traction Control and Check Engine Lights after losing grip (2021 CX-5 AWD)

Hello,

I own a 2021 CX-5 2.5 AWD. Recently, while driving uphill on a rainy day, I encountered some sand or gravel on the road. The tires slipped and spun briefly, and then the car suddenly went into limp mode. Both the traction control light and the check engine light also came on, and I had to struggle up the hill since there were cars behind me. This has happened about three times now.

What could be causing this problem? Thank you.

You will need to get an ODB code reader to analyze this yourself. Most auto parts stores will loan you this tool, some will help you use it while you're there.

Make note of the code(s) and report back here.

If you still have new car bumper-to-bumper warranty, take your CX-5 to a Mazda dealer to report the problem ASAP.

Okay, so the thing is this problem happened again when I was on the way to the dealership to get a change oil. I told them about the problem but after turning the car off and then on again the issue went away. They also scanned the car but refused to tell me what the code was and told me it was fine.

I'll buy an ODB code reader and report back here. Thanks guys,

When a dealer takes in your car to diagnose reported problems with the CEL, the dealer is supposed to document everything for what they’ve found with the CEL code stated on the invoice. Not telling you the CEL code and documented the diagnose on the invoice is a very strange behavior by a dealership. I’d find another Mazda dealer if possible for the problem you have ASAP before your 3-year / 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty expires.
