Lightweight flywheel?

Does anyone know of anygood lightweight flywheels for the P5? I am going to need a new clutch soon so I might as well change out the flywheel as well. Anyone know of any good clutches as well that still have the OEM feel to it?

Check that out, for $172 that MS flywheel seems like a good deal.
Yeah but it says it weights 18 lbs which I think is the stock weight of the current flywheel in the P5 so I don't think that would amount to much of a gain. You should check out Fidanza, Unorthodox Racing, and Indigo (just to name a few) as I believe they all make 9 lb flywheels. Just a heads up, from what I understand a lighter flywheel, although will allow for quicker revving, will also allow the RPM's to drop faster and cause the car to idle worse as there is less rotating mass to keep up the momentum (see mass moments of intertia for disks). Well I hope this helps somewhat and sorry for the random dynamics lesson (I am an engineer afterall (thumb) ).

Yep, a great way to make your P5 a nightmare to drive at lower speeds (parking lots, traffic, grandma's neighborhood, etc.)

I will second this a little bit.

I have the flywheel, but my turbo stuff isn't on yet, so....

I have stalled my car more times than I care to admit. It is usually when I am just driving around trying to keep it quiet with low rpms.

Note - The flywheel is in my ride because it is in the process of getting turboed with a built engine and and since the quaiffe LSD was installed, I put the flywheel in. If you are one of those NA guys (fuoops) I wouldn't say that it is worth it to have a lightened flywheel.

Yeah, because, you know, having a turbo AND a lightweight flywheel will make the car rev slower... Oh, waaait...

If you think a turbo is going to help having a lighter flywheel, you're sadly mistaken, I'm afraid. However, it is a worthwhile gain for an N/A Protege, assuming you can drive to any good degree.

Controlling the revs for launching just comes with practice.

Oh well then, n/m I didn't know it was 18lbs.

And why do you think its not a good thing for a turboed car? At least this is what i am assuming you are referring to?

Oh, not at all! I think it's a good thing for ANY car, I just don't think a turbo makes the situation any better to deal with, is all. =)

I've driven an MSP with a Fidanza flywheel, and my car (Same), and the turbocharged car was just a bit easier to over-rev from a stand still, while trying to launch just from a stop sign.

I have a light wieght flywheel in my P5, no turbo, and I notice a big diff. top end and some extra umpf through 1st, and 2nd. Easier to scratch the old second gear too. This counldn't be why I'll be replacing my tranny soon. Cough cough, I'm too hard on my freakin' tranny cough! On the other hand, it is a bit difficult to drive in slow traffic. I have a spec stage 3 clutch. (true 6 puck) It's a booger to drive sometimes.

Why would you get such an overkill clutch for a stock car? Lets be serious, your car is not making any real HP. The factory clutch would work more than fine in your case.

Gotcha...I was wondering because I have heard both good and bad things about lightened flywheels on turboed apps. I cant see how it couldnt help any car out. The only thing will be learning to tach the car a little higher on take off and learning how to engage the clutch all over again. It will be just like learning a new car again. I think that the pros will overcome the cons . I have the Fidanza 7 lber for reference I I cant wait to get it installed!
Just waiting on getting a new clutch before I install it.(thumb)

What about clutch. I wouldnt mind getting an oem clutch or an upgraded clutch like a stage one, you know just a little better than oem, but I still want to have the OEM feel. Is this possible?

Stage 1 clutches feel like stock, at least they have on all the integra's I've driven.

What are your plans for the car/what have you done? If you're not going to be pushing high HP you'll be more than fine with a stock clutch, in all honesty.

The mods that I have done to the care are a Magnaflow exhaust, a K&N Airfilter and a hollow cat. Nothing too special really. I just drive the piss out of it. Too much fun to drive really. At almost every intersection if I have good room I cut the turns with the E. So I kinda keep it in high revs and suff. I get her sideways pretty well so it's fun. I have even learnd to do no handed drifts and they land very nicely too, well at least my friends think so. I think it still needs a little work but any ways, the clutch that I have right now is ok it's just that I'm kinda afraid to work the clutch so I don't burn it. Thats why I think that if I got a new clutch it would help me out cause when I clutch kick it I would grab and I wont need to worry about it slipping. But there isn't gonna be too much HP in the car untill I finish with the Corolla. When I'm done with the Corolla I plan on making the P5 RWD. :)

My stage 3 feels pretty stock. It's not really any harder to push, it just grabs really quick, and once it is engaged it won't move.

with those couple of mods, an aftermarket clutch is unnecessary...unless it's cheaper. You'll burn it out just the same.
