License Plate mounting damages paint

Just got license plate for my new CX-5. Was surprised when I removed the paper dealer plate and noticed the paint had slight damage from the plastic cover. There are only two screw holes to mount plate with only masking tape on holes to raise plate from paint surface. Its obvious installing metal place without protection would quickly damage the paint leading to rust. Other cars have four holes and they are raise from paint surface.

Best solution would be to put one sided sticky foam tape in four corners of plate before screwing it down. Didn't have any, so used 1/2" heavy tape wrapped around perimeter of license plate to keep it from scratching paint.

Come on Mazda, you can do better! At a minimum they should add sticky rubber washers over holes and sticky rubber pads to raise plate off paint surface.

In the glove compartment there were 4 spacers about 1/8" thick to put between the plate and the body of the CX-5. I haven't put them on yet, I'll take a photo of them today and post later.

I have just opened the hatch against the wooden garage door and I can see the clear coat damage already. You can imagine that I was cautions with my car since I have purchased it a couple of days prior. Paint it's very weak.

If you buy a genuine Mazda license plate frame, it comes with 2 round foam padding you put on top for the screws and comes with a rectangular foam strip about 9 inches in length and half an inch in height to put on the bottom of the license plate.
These prevent the license plate and plate frame from touching the car.
Obviously car dealerships would put on their own crappy frames.
That's why when I bought mine, I took all the plates/frames off and ordered the Mazda frame right away.

Thanks! Will order one right away.
