I've driven my friend's Sunfire before with broken p/s and in a parking lot it's a nightmare. I almost hit a car because it fought me so much, vs how it would have normally turned into the spot with p/s. I guess you could just get a bigger steering wheel for more mech advantage, also. :p

a broken PS setup/de-powered is a totally different feel than a real manual steering setup. ;)

I have no doubt, I was just kind of adding that I wouldn't do it. I mean that car was fine at speed, but parking lots are to be dreaded. (2thumbs)

I just want to clarify that when I say "de-power" I'm not referring to just removing or looping the lines. To truly de-power the rack you need to crack it open and bust out some seals. I'm sure all you guys who've mentioned driving cars with failed power steering have felt a squishy, pulsing sensation when turning. This is the remaining power steering fluid being pushed around through the seals. Get in there, remove the seals, remove some seal retention springs and coat everything in grease. It really does make a big difference. If you go this route you're essentially ending up with a close-ratio manual rack.

Oryly? So I can just disassemble my rack and convert it to a manual rack? That's easy enough. I was hoping I wouldn't need to pull one from a junkyard.

Speaking of racks and such, I figured while i have the motor out again I'll upgrade the front sway bar so I snagged one from a MP3 partout. Hopefully it will show up in a week or two.

from a quick search i got this....
stock p5 (front sway) - 22mm
mp3 (front sway) - 25mm
msp (front sway)- 25mm

Thanks, I should have searched.

I tried to find out what my stock front size is, but no one even cares enough to post it. Next time I have access to a jack, I'll have to bust out my caliper and measure it. I read on mx6.com that the Probe has a 24mm front bar, but I'm not sure if that's the base, SE, or GT. I'd guess the GT, based on the numbers Levi posted.

I'm interested to check out your bar when it gets here Evan, and see if it'll work on mine.

Thanks for the numbers, Levi. Heck, I didn't even know the specs, just that that MP3 sways are from Racing Beat. I verified with my source (aka The Phen) and sent the cat my payment. haha.

And we can certainly see if it will fit the 626, Wes.

+2 heh-heh

Moar research to be done.

This thread will slow down a lot now that the Milly is my DD and I'm in no huge rush anymore. Of course, the P6 is still my main focus and I haven't lost interest though. I'm still saving for parts and trying not to spend it on anymore basses. heh-heh.

Ryan, just 3 now. I've had 18 total.

Larry, I'm putting in a JDM KLZE (200chp) as opposed to my old JDM KLDE (170chp). I needed to buy a KL for the Milly so I figured if I'm going to buy one, I might as well buy the 200chp motor and stick the 170chp motor in the Milly. But I really hate the Milly color. So much as to where I might sell it in the spring and buy another one in black or white.

Unless you find another one that has no rust, a rebuilt autotragic, and they're basically giving it away, I'd suck it up and keep driving it, but that's just me.

Not so fast, see what Josh can do as far as a color change goes. You have next to nothing invested so far in the Milly. Like Wes said the chances of finding another sweet deal like this are slim. Thanks for the engine info, I must have missed the post where you said what you were going to do. The whole idea makes total sense.

i +1 with these guys. i dont think the color looks bad at all, but i guess thats just my opinion. just learn to appreciate the color :) when i first got my car i was mad that it wasnt red or black, but i fell in love with silver :) maybe you will do the same with the milly.
