I know a lot of people talk on PT about Shaodome. What if we got our cars setup and tuned at the same time, Evan?

Jordan is a great guy, and really knows his MS stuff. He came up to STL and got me started on it, with my 96 and a friends Turbo ZE 93 PGT.

Phen, I have no idea. I haven't started my MS research yet so I don't really know much about them. It seems like a stand alone engine management ECU that's tunable. I would like something I can use on the ZE with the mild bolt-ons then be able to use the same MS in a year or two when I go turbo. Pablo and I figured a system to be about $600 a few months back. But if this new plug-and-play MegaSquirt is as simple as it looks then I would be willing to shell out $800 to just plug it in, then learn about tuning and all that jazz. Only problem with that $800 system is that it's a GB and they want 8-10 people to sign up and it's for the OBD1 wiring harness. So I would need to switch the harness, which isn't a big deal and about $70 but another added cost. At this point since the car will be in the garage motorless for a few months, I don't mind just using my exsisting Milly harness and building my own MS suitable to the N/A and later for boost. As long as I can get some help since honestly, it's really hard for me to focus on wiring with my meds.

JK, thanks for the heads up and that would be sweet if that cat would fly up and help me out some weekend, but I would think that would be pretty expensive... :(

I've got a metric s*** ton of research to do for this current project... MegaSquirt and wiring and the LSD install are going to leave me cross-eyed. haha. Then again, it may very well be worth it to just pay someone to fly in and help out or outsource things. Nah, I want to learn this stuff myself. It's just a little overwhelming right now.

edit- I type too slowly. Ninja'ed by TWO posts. haha

Wes- when is your time frame for your swap? It kinda looks like the VIR track day in Feb is going to get bumped or cancelled so I'm leaning towards having this a no-rush kinda of project. Assuming that's cool with Ivan. And if Jordan would be willing to fly up and help us with two ZE swaps and MS that would cut some of the cost down.

Evan, any of the Megasquirt setups will allow you to use them with boost, n/a, nitrous, s/c, etc..

The new MS3/MS3x does boost by gear also, I do believe. If you really want to hear it from the horses mouth and figure out the cost and exactly what kind of setup you would want you can just email Matt Cramer @ DIY directly and he will get you what you need. MS1 v3.0 will support coil-packs, switchable tables, launch control, WOT shifting, etc..it should do anything you want it to, aside from progressive/by gear boost..

In other news; I 'm not sure if I have a rev limiter. I missed a shift into 5th and it went to atleast 7.5k... Yikes. So I'm going to take it easy this week. I don't want to have to buy two KL's...

But I'm excited to get the Milly running. It's going to be niiiiiiiice. I miss having a stereo in my car. But the P6 is going to be even more fun when spring comes around. I'm super excited to get to work on it. Just lots of research first. :)

Yeah, I'll definitely need one of those, lol.

I'm not in a hurry either. We can try to plan things out tomorrow. With the rust repairs for the truck and stuff, it might set me back a bit. I haven't looked into it yet, but I'll be doing plenty of research, as you know.

How did I miss the part where said you are swapping the P6 engine again? I thought the swap was for the Milly?

This is a amazing thread! Well done, beautiful MP5! Would you happen to know anyone in N. Ohio willing to do a KLDE or possibly a KLZE swap? Tons of honda guys but no real Mazda swappers. Any info would be awesome! Thanks

Thanks, MP5Mat.

As far as the KLDE/ZE swap, what time frame are you looking at? I'm in NorthEastern Ohio (44262) and could certainly give you a hand and possibly swap it here at my house. Again, depending on your time frame and such. Send me a PM and we can chat about it. :)

DIY Autotune are good guys. They did aMaff's MS in his Miata. Pretty nice, flat torque curve, and nice power out of a little 1.6. The potential is there for quite a bit more on your car.

Evan, knowing your attention to detail, making your own harness probably wouldn't be such a bad thing. Post a pic of the bass wiring again...

Oh, you mean this work of art? Haha. I miss that bass. But she was a heavy ****** with the walnut body... Ps- those pots are about the size of a quarter to put things into perspective. I love wiring, I hate figuring out schematics.

My own wiring harness would be nice/fun but I wouldn't know the lengths of things and colors would be off and stuff. Right now I'm gunning for a 93/94 PGT harness and the MS group buy on PT for $800. Plug and play FTW. But there are plenty of other options out there. I'm keeping my eyes open.

Ryan, the ASA's are still for sale. I sent you a long ass PM about them. haha.

Okay, I'm going to roll it around some...I really want some optimal sized 16s. As far as I know options are pretty slim in those regards.
