Chipmunk and Evan #2, thanks for the offer to help guys, I greatly appreciate it. I probably won't need any help until the spring when it's ready to be swapped in. I've been working incredibly slow on the motor so it would probably drive anyone else batty.
HK- your P5 is badass, you can't sell the SC! Or if you do go KL you can always use the SC on the KL. That would be even badassererer. But yeah, the spring dyno session will be the moment of truth for sure. Just make sure you buy a straight neck JDM KLZE (200hp) and not a JDM Millenia KL (170hp), learn from my mistake. heh-heh.
Wes, those videos are pretty rad. I'm sure the KL will sound great with the GReddy muffler regardless of which headers I go with.
As far as the headers go; the Pace Setters are painted steel, so they will rust and I shouldn't wrap them, they sound pretty raspy which I don't want to live with everyday, but they have the most power gains and they are $262 at Summit. The OBX headers are on eBay and many stores and are about $330 shipped, are stainless steel and have the flex pipe and sound pretty good. I've read some reviews about the SSAC not fitting very well. But are basically OBX copies. I'm typically not a fan of OBX or Pace Setter since they are inexpensive brands with mixed reviews but the I know that those two brands will fit the Protege chasis. I'll look onto Bosal right now, I've seen them around but thought they weren't manufactured anymore? I'm not really hip to buying used headers so I wanted something new.
And I just unloaded my transmission from the truck. I'll unwrap it and bring it home tonight. It came with the starter, half shaft, tranny mounts and clutch and flywheel (even though I'm not using those). The half shaft and starter are the parts I really wanted anyway. Just cross my fingers the bolt holes line up for the halfshaft mount to the block. I've read the years are wonky and are all sorts of different bolt patterns.
And I got my 1994 manual PGT wiring harness in today. It looks pretty good. I'm going to clean it all up and re-wrap it in wire loom and electrical tape.
