Leather Interior

I saw a P5/Mica Blue with a full leather job @ my dealer. The leather was black with blue stiching, matching the paint, with a blue mazda emblem on the headrest. I was more than a little jealous. Going price for that was 2K CAD. Do you think I shoul get it done on my MSP, with Orange Stiching instead?

I will take pics. I was VERY (!!!!) impressed. But they had it done on an auto P5 :wtf:

Hey,
i've seen something very similar to that..it was on a Yellow P5 in a dealership with full leather interior, painted dash peices and trims, yellow shift boot, door panels, two tone leather on the seats black with yellow inserts. It looks really food from far away, but if you look closely at the leather, in the colour area for example, there's alot of little dirty spots.

Keep in mind that this is sitting in a dealer showroom, where only a few people has sat in the car. Imagine now, you getting in and out of your car each day in all different types of whether conditions and getting all kinds of dust, dirt, mud, slush, rain etc....
It's going to be very hard to clean, or to even keep clean. Just a thought.
$2K CAN is an asking price from the dealership which is alot. You can always get friendly with one of the salesman, and see if they know where they did the interior. I'm sure you can save a few hundred $ if you get it right from the aftermarket installer.

if you like to cruise, go for it...

if you want to have fun with the msp's suspension, then no... because you'll be sliding out of the seat of you did!

I think slidage is more due to the shape of the seat than the material it is made of. Even if my ass stays in place on the current upholstery (mp3) my upper body is all over the place, which affects my ability to properly steer

Get a better restraint system and you'll stay stuck in the seat. Some (maybe all?) of the Schroth systems are street legal with dual shoulder belts.

I'd like to get a 5-point for autocrossing but those aren't legal for the street.

that's funny because the current seatbelts are far from perfect and jam often yet they are street legal. I can imagine many ways in which I would despite my seatbelt crack my head open on the steering wheel window, or passenger. i guess it's all about passing certification.

well if you put in the leather...it DOES look nice...I have seen a few P-5s down here that had it done too...looked really good....

I did manage to get out of one of the salesmen that they were kits made by Katskins...and they had a local shop do the install for them.....they were asking 1400 US for it here....I passed. I like fabric seats here in our heat....leather is just too hot.

as for the restraints.....get a set of RACE APPROVED restraints...and I bet you will NEVER get a ticket for it...and if some A$$hole cop ever did give you one....you could easily beat it in court. just for the simple fact that the requirements for a RACE APPROVED system is much more strict than that of a "street" legal system that is in our stock cars.

Leather isn't what It's cracked up to be. Had it in the V6 accord coupe. Smells great, looks great when new, but gets old quickly, and is too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. And you got to watch every single little thing you put on them so they don't tear.

I don't miss it at all. I don't find the MP3's seats bad at all. One of the few seats that don't hurt my back. And I have a bad neck/back from some asshole hitting my 2 month old 94 Prelude SR, and breaking my neck after he jumped a stop sign. Jerk. Never did get any money out of it. Anyways, most seats hurt me after time, but the MP3's I can sit in them all day. I'm assuming the MSP's are the same with some prettier styling in the cloth.

I would leave them as is, and spend money elsewhere. Aftermarket seats sometimes look out of place.

I wish you were right, but the law's the law. As far as beating it in court, you want to spend the money for a lawyer to prove your point? You're not going to convince a judge on your own. I'm not arguing with you, the system's flawed, but I wouldn't risk it on the street because it's not worth my time and money. The Schroths are really nice (and legal) for street use. I'll get a 5-point and enjoy it on the track/autox course.

Orange and black Katzkins with some custom embroidery would be nice. I've been thinking about that for a while. Maybe get suede on the bolsters?

everyone seems to complain about the seats not having enough bolster (granted they're not the best seats for real driving out there, but they're decent compared to lots of other cars).... I personally think the problem is people don't have the seat adjusted right... I have it adjusted perfectly to conform to my body with the front of the seat bottom tilted upwards forcing me to the back of the seat.... this in turn allows the seat fabric to hold me down and let the side bolsters keep me in... I have the seat moved up just enough to allow bracing on the foot rest too... I never had a problem with sliding out of the stock seats... and I'm a pretty small guy!

well we all know there are some STUPID laws out there....I don't know about where you are at...but here....as long as you are strapped in....there isn't a cop in the state that is going to give you a ticket....ESPECIALLY if you have a system in your car that excedds a simple factory lap/shoulder harness strap.....

Edwin? EVERYONE? NOT EVERYONE....that is a bit of an exageration now isn't it? you never heard ME complain about the seats....in fact I love our seats.....I have driven for as many as 15 hours in a day and never got sore or fatigued from sitting in the seats....

and when I run through the 45 mph S-curve at 85 that is on the entrance road to where I live....I don't slip or slide around at all....our seats support me just fine!

Slip Slidin' Away.

My new P5 has the factory leather option and they are quite smooth (and very comfortable). The seats have little side bolstering and I would not want them if I was autocrossing or the like.
On the topic of seatbelting, I had a Simpson 4 point in my Yenko on the driver's side for many years and no law enforcement official ever questioned it when I was stopped (usually for excessive noise).

our stock seats are great, i was cruisin around for like 5 hours with just me and my girlfriend, and she even commented on how great the seats were.
