Lean Idle Issues with Split Second AFC

Hello,

I have had an issue with my SS AFC. When I start the vehicle either hot or cold it sometimes idles and wants to die like it isnt getting enough fuel. It idled fine before the SS AFC install. Everything is installed correctly with the super map, but I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the fuel map at idle RPM to alleviate this issue when it is in open loop. Does anyone have any suggestions?

you can set output b mode to rpm and pressure

and change the rpm and pressure settings to above idle : >-10 and >1500rpm

i've also found that resetting the ecu helps.

Thanks Ill try to change those settings to see if it helps. I tried to reset the ECU, but something in the AFC is what is affecting it.

Any other ideas? I should say too that after idleing like that for about 30 seconds then corrects iteself and idles fine.

are u running a 626 manifold?

Dont mean to thread jack. DanDan what does the 626 manifold have to do with it? My car when i start it will deep but then idle correctly after i bleep the throttle didnt start until the manifold was put on. Jus tryin to get some information

I have the same issue since my SS was installed as well. Do you have a boost gauge?
Every time I stop at a light the car idles strange tries to die and the vac goes from -20-21 to -17-18 then it corrects itself and the vac stays down.
The strange thing is that, I also keep throughing a lean in bank one CEL. once the CEL is triggered the car acts fine has absolutly no idle or vac issues?
It doesn't make any sense. So for the last couple hundred miles I've just left the CEL on. The car runs great that way.

I've been told that the idle/vac issues along with the lean code may just be the EGR acting up. and the new tune with the SS may have been what triggered it.

I thought I heard this was normal upon installing the Afc. Until tuned. Then again, sometime's these car's idle funny (sometimes) with the stock computer. I don't think it's something to worry about.

mine is tuned. We thought it was because of the bigger turbo. Once tuned still happening?

No vac. issues with my boost guage, I am running at -22 which from what I hear is normal. It doesn't fluctuate with the bad idle either. It's just so weird that it only happens for about 30 seconds before it corrects itself. I want to think that its ok, but it is pretty annoying. Can't I somehow add more fuel to it when it is idleing through the AFC map, or would that not be possible?

Im having the same problem, the car actually will stall if I let it idle when its cold but as soon as the car gets to running temperature everything works fine. The idle was perfectly fine before the afc.

Mine does it for like 2 tenths of a second a the calms down. It did it much worse when my egr was bad. No it only does it when its hot in the summer or hot and really cold out. Never cared that much it doesn't die and it goes away not worried about it. If you have a wideband though when it does it it reads straight lean though right?

If I leave my car in the sun on a hot day it will do this as well. But I have a 626 manifold with no vtcs, so I presume that is the problem. During a cold start the flaps start controlling the airflow to not let as much air in due to emission standards. Without those air flaps, the car will run more lean since more air is coming in.

I'm about to remove my Emanage and injectors to see if this helps, as I currently have the same problem. When my idle drops and rises, repeats etc..., the vac gauge shows a slight loss of vacuum at the time the idle drops and goes lean. Also, even when my idle is stable, it's still lean. I don't get it.

It's odd that so many people are having this issue after installing a SS-AFC.... hmm. This bothers me to no end, even though I suffer no driveability issues caused by the lean idle / idle fluctuation. Grr dude, very grr.

Been there done that with the SS AFC. Best advice is to get something else to tune with. In my experience they suck. Basically what happens is that the SS AFC is fighting your stock Ecu for control of the fuel map. The Idle Air Control Valve goes crazy. The SS AFC tells the car to follow its fuel map, but the Ecu factory fuel trims try to overcome what the SS is doing. It is a never ending battle! Get something else. I 'm running a MegaSquirt kit.
