LCD vs. Plasma TV's and What Kind?

for starters, it took the girlfriend like 3 weeks to clean the stains off the ceiling... secondly, unless its lesbian porn, theres a dude pounding away in every corner of the living room...

let me clarify: UNLESS its girl-girl porn, dont watch it in theater mode.

60" hitachi ultravision directors series lcd tv screen...sharp, clean, and so freakin huge...

my system is the s***...wireless surround, 5 disc dvd/mp3/cd/tuner

besides, the speakers sound amazing, and the looks are perfect

ummm, they look sexy....but I've heard them. trust me, you can get better. But, I like big sound, like a wall of sound

I commented on it because I'm in the middle of upgrading all of mine and building a dedicated theater room with a front projector. I was giving an opening for myself to brag about mine :) j/k

Just got the Axiom m80 package www.axiomaudio.com. Although i got a HSU sub in place of the axiom one. 12" 350 watt RMS ( 1450 peak) down firing, 82 lbs, 15x20x23H" :) goes down as low as 16Hz. Damn thing shakes my house, and unfortunately my two neighbors apparantly...ooops.

m80's are 41" tall, 17" deep, 9.25 wide with legs on, 70lbs, 400 watts RMS continous although capable of up to 1200 with a clean source.

Hmm...LCD is the way to go IMO...Ived sold a bunch of plasma TV from hi brand as NAKAMICHI to the LOWLY VISIO...they just cant last as long as the LCD when it comes to reliability. Theres too much DONTS in the plasma. I dont like also the fact that they turn so hot on the back of the Tv and iagine it being hanging to the wall or something. Plus one slip of laying it down and its GOODBYE..LDC is nice, not too thin as the plasma but has almost same pic quality as the plasma. If you live in Texas preferably in Ft. worth ill show you some LCD thats cheap yet nice..(SONY, PANASONIC,SAMSUNG)...even DLPs that been marked down..hehehe

Panasonic plasma spanks a lot of the others out there. Their new generation has a better design which all but eliminates "burn in" (which does exist, but nobody stares at the same image long enough for it to ever be an issue). I've sold easily over 100 of the 37-42" Panasonic's where I work and every single customer is happy they got it. Lot's of 3rd party review websites will state Panasonic is the way to go for the money (at least based on my research). The colors are more real and contrast ratios (light to dark ratio) are way better than many others (don't trust what a spec sheet says--Panasonic has very conservative spec's so check 'em out side by side if you can). If you have intererst in one just pm me and I can hook you up with a good deal.

Hmmm a lot of good advice here. Still can't decide haha. I am going into my senior year of college and i wanted to go out in style, but being a college students, i don't want to break the bank. basically, i think i'm willing to spend $2,500....hopefully some interest free financing (which everyone seems to be doing for a TV) so i don't part with my money so quick. Also, LCD projectors are kinda intriguing me. I don't kno much about them, but they are MUCH cheaper than lcd and plasma, and they look sharp. And not too thick either....my 24" wega tv weighs as much as a 50" lcd projector. But 50 is def. too big for the room i'm intending....42" would prob. be the max size.

Plasma at that size can not be touched in perfomance for the price. Burn in is possible but ALOT less likley then before. Also LCD have the typical LCD lamp life issues to that same levels that plasmas burn out. Each of which are at the point of normal CRT tube TVs.

Yes, BenQ sucks my ass. Pioneer, panasonic, Sony, and NEC are where I would focus my attention. NEC is probably the most overlooked home audio set yet is consider the most realible in the Pro world by many people.

ahh...NEC eh? hmm might take a look around. But although they might have similar lamp life, u can replace the lamp in LCD's for like $250. Also, how are Sharp Aquos line of tv's? They look pretty nice, and my usually refurbisehd website have them right in the price range i was looking at.

I'm hoping that both technologies mature, and cheapen a bit before I "need" to replace my sony crt. I've got the infocus pj to hold me over until then, but you can't exactly watch the projector like a tv as the bulbs are pricey. By the time I get the basment done....and paid for :( I'll be looking to get a lcd or plasma or dlp as well for upstairs. They all look good, and some designs are so nice they look more like pieces of art then tv's. They really become the focal point for your room....literally as well of course.

I think the sharps are junk from the half dozen I have seen. I would rather have a Sony tube of the same size.

Lamp replacement is certainly an advatage of LCD although you will pay alot more for a comperable LCD at the beggining as opposed to the plasma.

What about on the smaller scales? im thinking about buying 19-27inch LCD for my room. What would you pro's reccomend?

Since plasmas are 37 or larger, LCD is the way to go. Again, NEC if very overlooked.
Other then that, LCD wise I am not familair with the newest products.

From everything that I have seen I really still like the clarity of a big ass sony flat screen tube. You can get them way cheap now, and although you gotta be a strong motherfucker to move one (wont get stolen, haha, mine is like 350 lbs of fragile TV death) They look super nice. At the time I bought mine, Plasma TVs were in their infancy and all the available ones were hella expensive and looked like CRAP. Textures like hair and grass still don't look right to me on a plasma.

go DLP... i think the image quality and lower price will be more attractive than an LCD or Plasma in that size range.

i recently purchased a syntax olevia 32" lcdtv. this is my first lcd/hdtv ever. i was using a 19" sony flat crt for a while and also had a 10yr old 21" tv in my room. i wanted to save space and also not spend a lot of money.

i ended up researching different forums and noticed a lot of people talking about the SYNTAX OLEVIA. i never heard of them before but read that for the price it is pretty good. i read that the screen is actually made by Philips/LG. i checked online for pricing and saw that most places were charging 1600-2000; some with a 300 MIR. i went to fry's and saw it selling for 1599. i told him that i saw it cheaper online with rebate and he just said, "ok 1299". i just ended up buying it. :D i think it was worth it. here is a link with the specs: http://www.syntaxusa.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=121

here are also a couple of pics i took a few weeks ago:

damn...that looks good (and is that madagascar??). I dunno, i checked out some flat screens at circuit city today and the new sharps look amazing...damn good black levels too, so i'm not sure if its the old ones u checked out. Also, the reviews for them have been consistantly good. Most saying sharp aquos series offer the best in LCD quality...i'll keep searching thought and let you guys know how it goes.

yeh, that's madagascar (HD trailer). my friend, who owns a 30" olevia, told me that the sharp aquos was pretty much the same as the syntax olevia. if you're interested in the syntax, target is selling it for 1399 with a 10% discount and free shipping+tax; and there is another place called "digitally unique" that has it for ~1360 after shipping with no tax.
:D

Never use animation to judge a display. Get a well made film with alot of dark scenes. Fast moving explosions are another good thing to test out a set.
