Took my 15 CX-5 GT in to the Mazda dealer, today since the Nav was becoming a PIA, stability wise. It would randomly lockup, requiring removal and re-insertation of the SD card.
The Service writer was a bit reluctant to update the firmware, since the system was working properly when he saw it! I gently prodded him and he finally agreed.
1st take...Too early to really tell if this solved my problem. All appeared the same as the old one, except the Voice change menu It now showed a pair of lips and my chosen voice "Samantha" was now 1st on the list instead of 3rd or 4th I believe. (never would have noticed except that I had previously been forced to scout around while trying to correct the lockups)
The new Nav firmware "seems" a bit more responsive, and so far has not locked up (drove for about 2 hrs only today). Time will tell, but the build date on my 2015 model was dated 9/2014!. That would indicate to me that its firmware had to be at least a year old and probably older!
The Nav volume was very loud,(even after adjustment to its lowest level) relative to the FM radio, which has pretty poor reception anyway. Of course the USB bug (returning to the usb stick beginning instead of picking up where it left off after unit was off) I did not expect any change since after reading here that changing out the usb module yielded no noticeable improvements . Did not wish to press my luck. While the USB bug is a PIA, I guess I can live with it, as long as I use the shuffle button; which in itself, has its own issue! Shuffle will not remain set, after the unit was powered off and restarted...BLEH. Not complaining since the system in my ex-Outback was horrendous with the voice recognition and the sound was marginal at best!!
Note: My take on the Bose system in the GT. It is decent, but not terrific as noted by others. Playing around with the tone control yielded slightly better results, and was way better that the HK system in the Outback LTD! Increasing the bass slider +1 made it a bit more "Bose Like..boomy"
My understanding is that the new firmware is supposed to make the NB1 VR more reliable. It was not perfect but was indeed better than the 2013 Subie. From what I saw, the new 2015 system in the OB was not much better either! Geez, even my old 2011 Hyundai Tucson had better VR...but I despised its ride. The CX-5 simply killed everything else that I drove, thus my decision!
