The new Mazda2 will also be badge-engineered as a Toyota for the American market, sometime in 2015. Mazda’s Mexican plant will be making 50,000 2′s with ‘Toyota’ written on them from the summer of 2015.

This article seems to imply that the Mazda 2 won't be coming to the US. Just the re-badged Toyota version.

Doesn't look like a complete redesign to me. This just looks like the current Mazda 2 with Mazda's new front end design slapped on. If the new Mazda6 and Mazda3 say anything I see the new Mazda 2 being a little longer with a longer front end.

Hard to tell if it's a hack job via photoshop. I don't like the re-badged Mazda Toyota though rumor though.

It will. The Mazda 2 will be built by Mazda (Mazda engine and transmission tbd) and Toyota will rebadge one into maybe a Scion, give it some different panels to make it look like a Scion, let Mazda build it at their new Mexican plant, and call it a day.

Sounds like some people didn't read the paragraph right below the picture:

This is a rendering by Automobile Magazine France of what the next generation Mazda2 would look like. While this is still a speculative rendering, it is obvious that the car has grown in every dimension thanks to the bigger platform.

I really doubt that Mazda would use the CX-5 platform for the 2, at least globally. I can't help but wonder if the Demio will live on in Japan on a smaller platform, and what the US gets is something completely different.

Either way, I suspect my decision to buy a 2013 while I could will end up being a wise one.

Exactly why I got the 13. Japanese build quality, light weight, spirited handling and far enough into the build cycle to have zero worries about first year model quirks.

And the finance deals and dealer incentives helped a bunch also.

The current 2 was sold elsewhere in the world since 2008 so even the 2011 cars are well into the build cycle.
