Im thinking about getting new subs, (first need to sell old ones) and i want to get good subs but dont want to spend a lot. So i want to get either one 15" Kicker L7 or one 12" MTX 9500. Which one should i get? Thanks

My friend has a truck with two 12" MTX 9500 in a ported box. Cant go wrong with those. They hit hard and very clean. Other friend has 2 kicker L7's but they are 12's and IMO dont sound as good as the MTX's.The 15" you'll get more lower bass so it depends on what you want. Right now I have 1 TC Sounds 12" sub in my car and I love it. The only thing about having 1 sub is when you pack out the car you really lose alot of bass.

Go with the 9500 it's way more effiecient than the kicker and it can also take more abuse. The solobarics design is its worse enemy. Yes it the kicker will move more air but it will sound like crap. The 9500 has a better suspension so it will give you cleaner and much tighter bass. You will need atleast 500 true watts of power for the 9500 I recammend about 750 to 1000 watts so you have the reserve for the lower frenquencies. So there ya go.

Sounds good;I plan on giving either of the subs at least 1200 watts, but im thinking about going with 1700 so that way if it isnt truly 1700 watts it'll be more than 1000. keep the opinions coming. Thanks

agreed. installed a couple l7s in a buddys car a few months ago. they do get plently loud, but just really sound like ish. peaky bass response and dont seem to play low notes too well.

I have one 15" Kicker L7 and i love it. It hits hard and very clean. The amp will make you love it or hate it. For a while I had an audiobahn 1800 watt amp powering it and it sounded good until I cranked it up and it distorted. Also with the audiobahn it would always be too loud on mids and wherever i didnt want that much bass. After that amp blew less than a month I bought a Rockford Fosgate amp putting out 2100 watts. This amp is far better than the audiobahn. The bass is very clean and will never distort. The db. knob is always great too so you dont have to keep going in the trunk to re-adjust the bass.

Also with the L7 i could never find a ported box anywhere so I had to make my own off the specs on the website. There are 2 types, the vented compact(which i built) and the vented spl/deep bass. Mine being 3 cubic feet and the other one 6.

But anyways if you decided to go with the L7 I have a brand new one still in the box as well as the drawings for the ported box.
