Klunk explained

I am starting to do the math for when my warranty will run out, and it doesn't look good :(
Not that I will be satisfied with Mazda just kicking me to the curb at that time, but it will be great to have an alternative in the works !
:)

Take the geekiness test and see if you can best my number in the 40% range. I pwn the geeks!

where can i sign up?? Is it a e-test? If so I need to run it on my AMD 325873252 Hz PC with 1354325142 mb of ram, 2352 graphic card on #@# port with #asdhaw busline. And let me put on my glasses and "thinking cap" on :p

(lol)

Very nice. What discipline. Trying to figure out if any other mud suckers are driving the MSP's.

How long is our warranty? 3 years?

3 yrs/50k miles, which ever comes first (I'm pretty sure).

Polyurathanes might work, but they will creak and grind a lot more. Rubber bushings SHOULD last for a few years, not weeks.

Micaspeed, I really hope you are looking into coming up with the fix outlined by yourself and Racing Beat's original suspsension. An adapter bracket to move the bushings would be fantastic. It seems like Mazda's new fix (based on the thread in the MP3 forum) is going to be a teflon-lined bushing. Whatever the **** that means. I doubt that will do it. What a bunch of s***. So you've got my $$$ if you make it!

Chris

I've had the teflon lined bushing...3 times!! That won't do it. Micaspeed! we need you to save us from the damn accountants and jackasses at Mazda Corporate. We'll all pay for a solution if it works. I know I've said it before, but the excitement for your fix (because: 1. you know what you're doing and talking about and 2. that you can actually MAKE it) is palpable at this point. Its there, we know the problem, we know the solution, we just need a catalyst that can MAKE IT REAL !
Thanks again, and keep us updated!!

Rocket scientist aka aerospace

About poly and it not deforming, that's untrue. If an object carries a load, it has to deform, either elastic or plasticity, if you don't believe it, check out poisson's ratio. So if you make a bushing that doesn't deform, then all the dynamic loads would transmit through the sway bar to the chassis and you would definitely know it.

Oh and one more thing about deformation, elastic is ok, since that means after the load is gone, the material goes back to original shape, however, from all the thread talking about "deformed" bushing, it sounds like the bushing has went beyond its yield point = in the plastic deformation range, hence it allows the sway bar to move and cause the clunk [klunk]. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It either goes beyond it's yield point or wears (abrades). Either way it's bad.

I'm actually looking into having a local welder fab up the brackets, but it won't be until next week or so that I can check into it (I'm traveling...). They look like SOMEONE has the jigs to make 'em, hope we find out about 'em soon!

yup, and scott is right too.

No one knows if the racing beat setup wouldn't clunk or not. So it's just speculation at this point. The Racing beat car is rarely driven, and it's driving on smooth Californian roads in the ideal climate. So does it work as a daily driver? in not so perfect climates? dunno

Hey, we clunk here in California, too, but it's a few thousand miles before it starts to happen.

This should be a sticky.

I agree! this should be a sticky. And I think we need to do a lil spring cleanning on the stickies that are already up!

I hope what is said is true and will fix the problem! Note that "A" in the pic is the stock mounting location.....

Exactly! The suspension that Racing Beat did used the stock protege mounting points. The rear sub-frame (for lack of a better term) is different in the MP3 than the standard Protege.

So, is the mounting in a different place on the MP3/MSP than in that picture?
