KJ-ZEM swap?

First off, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong section.

I was wondering if a KJ-ZEM (2.3L V6 supercharged) would fit in the 3rd gen Proteg. I actually have a 2001 2L Proteg. Do you know of anybody who has tried this swap, knows what is needed to do a complete swap, or is it too complicated and costly to do?

Thanks for any input!

I checked on wikipedia--it seems the Millenia used both the KJ-ZEM and the KL-DE. The latter engine drops into the Protege. If A implies B and B implies C then A implies C, unless the KJ-ZEM is just physically too large to fit in the Protege engine bay. But at least the motor mounts should be compatible.

Yeah I was looking at them on ebay, 1200 only. 217HP hmmm. Any more input anyone.

Enlighten me by "drop in" Josh?

I am clueless about what fits or does not fit in this car. I mean if a KL-DE is really that easy a swap meaning the same goes for a KJ-ZEM

To me "drop in" means two guys can do it in a weekend considering inevitable exhaust modification, changing of harness, ecu, coolant hosing etc... and considering that the gauges probably wont work...

Anyway subbin, this is an interesting topic (drive2)

the KJ is just the supercharged miller cycle lump. not a great motor in itself, you would be better swapping in a KL-ZE, same power, more reliable, respond's better to mod's, and its flat out known they will drop in. no quesswork.

read here to understand how the miller cycle engine work's.

That's pretty much what I meant. Same engine mount locations, bolts right up to the transmission, physically fits inside engine bay. From what I've read, the wiring is the crux of it.

The KJ does not have the same mount on the front of the engine as the KL/KF/K8. The blower pulley sits there.

The manifold setup for the two intercoolers on the engine also will have to be moved to have hood clearance for you. The back intercooler was fed through a duct along the underside of the hood like the MS6/MS3. The front intercooler uses a short duct and both pull from grille area but it sits up rather high.

The crankshaft pulley is alot thicker than the stock KL type due to the wider belt setup on the engine for the blower drive.

Ok, that explains why the KL-DE (or -ZE) is the only V6 swap I've seen done in a Protege.
