i'd be happy if they took the p5 design and modified the exterior slightly and kept everything else the same. it would be nice if the p5 could live on even if it was a kia

before you post, make sure to check around to see if there have been any other posts that you could add to instead of wasting memory on something that is already posted.....

kia rio, probably the worst car ever ... my friend bought one and it has been breaking after a few months went by. she had the car for less than 3 years. last month, it broke down twice... totalling $3000 worth of repairs. she got fed up and just returned the car to Kia (leased). so i brought her to a Mazda dealership and she came out with a new Mazda3 Sedan GT ... :D

I think the Rio 5-door thing they have now is much better looking.

everyone needs to stop saying that every hatchback that comes out looks like a p5. its getting annoying

As for the new Spectra, Edmunds.com can give you a good idea as to current pricing, but the 5-door is not yet listed. See Car and Driver for a road test (I think it was in the August issue). Currently there is a large rebate on the sedan only. With $1500 rebate, a loaded 5-speed sedan is around 14K with ABS. Based on my experience with the Hyundai Elantra, it is a nice commuter, but any Mazda can run rings around it handling wise.

According to Car and Driver, the Spectra 5-door handles well, but without rebate, will probably cost nearly as much as a base Mazda 3 5-door. End of argument.

Autoweek has a spread on it. I haven't read it yet, but I thought it said the price would be around $14k. But it is in fact a Hyundai with a Kia badge. The warranty is the best in the business - 100K bumper to bumper. Incidentally, Hyundai scored 2nd overall in JD Power ratings for best overall initial quality, much better than most manufacturers including Mazda.

EDIT: Here is the link to the <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=100601">Autoweek article</a>

Oh, the price is $13K, but they said the MSRP on the Spectra5 has not been announced as yet. Specs are 138HP, 136 torque, dohc 2.0-liter inline four with continuously variable valve timing, 0-60 in 8.8 seconds, curb weight 2701 lbs.
