What do you all think of the new KIA Spectra5 - trying to clone the Protege5!
We had something fairly unique, until these bone heads cloned the P5!

they don't have an original design yet. i work as a kia tech...i have to look at those horrible things all day. consider it flattery i guess...when you were little didn't you idolize jose canseco or anything?

kia is just the rota of the automakers.

Heh, keep thinking about picking up a 95 Kia Sportage and transplanting a genuine Mazda FE DOHC in, and boosting it.

Hyundai's the same way though, my mom bought a 2002 Elantra, when she got it home, I thought she had picked up a Saab

Well 4dr wagons/hatches are the in thing now. When the protege 5 came out, it was pretty much it with the wrx wagon, is300 sport wagon, the 2002 Si's, ford zx5, and the 4drgolfs/gti's. As for economy just the Protege5 and the zx5's were around I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Protege5 still gets the "is that the new mazda."

Seriously, when I first saw the commercial I flipped out screaming how they are copying our car and then I burst out laughing because its so rediculously lame. I mean come on! They cant even make it the Kia Spectra6..its gotta be the Spectra5?!?! And its gotta be the hatchback with the little wing on the top and have a similiar front end? Alloy wheels? and all the other options on a loaded P5?!?! PLEASE!! LOL!

MY MOM CALLED ME TO TELL ME MY CAR WAS ON THE TV LAST NIGHT!!
I was like, there's no way - my car's too old already for Mazda to advertised. Then she freaked when she realized it was the Kia. I'd told her before about how Kia was copying our car when I saw the article on it in Car and Driver. She said it didn't look the same at all . . . until she saw the ad.

Stupid Kia rip-off. We all know we have the Real Thing. (at least they knew better than to copy the Mazda3 . . . or are they waiting til the next redesign for that one?)

Friends of mine had me run to the tv also telling me my car is on...and I go tell them to **** off and say thats a freakin Kia! Then of course they commented how ghey that was that Kia copied mazda.

So is the spectra5 really just a p5 with slight changes, wouldn't that mean that we can swap after market parts?

on a side note. while i was sitting in the mazda dealership, they had an article sitting on the table about how the new kia spectra got a "poor" rating in the crash tests. to paraphrase, it said something like, "cars at this rating a likely to cause moderate to serious physical harm to driver and/or passengers in a low speed collision." meanwhile, the mazda3 had the highest rating rating of the group of cars that were tested.

............so much for the spectra5 being a p5 ripoff.
