Keyless entry

ah **** my main remote battery just died and you're telling me i have to go through all this hell just to get it work again :(

if you change the battery within less than 30 seconds the setting will stay. This happens not only to us, but also GM guys.

I would suggest having everything ready besides you, and then changing the battery in like 10 seconds. works like a charm..

matthew while holding the button on your remote lock and unlock the doors in your car... iirc thats how you reset it.

ill try that when i go to lunch (im at school, just had a test), good idea. if it gets to the point where there is the slightest bit of sun gets out ill take that pic of the lug for you.

**** i still cant get it to work, and mazda wants to charge me 45 or more dollars to have my keys reprogrammed. they said i violated my ******* remote warranty by changing my own battery! can you ******* believe that s***?

doesnt SOMEONE work here that can tell me what to do for sure?

wait you held the button down then locked and unlocked it? do it several time or just keep locking it.

centless good job but heres the post.
Start:
1999-2003 Protege OEM Keyless Entry Code Change How-to
The following is a how-to on changing the security codes on the remote and keyless entry module in case you are either paranoid or having problems with your keyless entry.

1. Make sure there are no keys in the ignition and that all doors are closed
2. Open driver's side door
3. Insert key into ignition switch and cycle the key between the ON and LOCK positions 3 times
4. Remove key from ignition switch
5. Push the driver's side door sensor switch 3 times
6. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock.
If nothing happens, wait 40 seconds and start from step 3 again
7. Press any button on any transmitter twice
8. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
9. If you have only 1 remote, press any button on that remote twice.
If you have 2 or 3 remotes, press any button on any of the other remotes twice.
10. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
11. If you have 1 or 2 remotes, press any button on either remote twice.
If you have 3 remotes, press any button on the 3rd remote twice.
12. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
13. The codes should now be reprogrammed

Note A:
1. Hold down the driver's side door sensor switch
2. Verify that the doors lock and unlock twice
3. Start from step 3 again

If you start working on 1 remote, finish working with that 1 remote until you're done reprogramming it!!!
End

no, I didn't see post #9, sorry

and why past those damn text instructions again? linking to them in another thread cleans up the clutter in my opinion

...oh well.. having a bad morning so far... carry on...

because search function brings up the newest thread and if you linked it each time it was asked then you have to crawl through links and links to find your answer.

when it says press the drivers switch three times, lock or unlock or it doesnt matter?

I can't tell if you got this to work yet or not, but I had the same problem. when it says driver switch (in the reprogramming directions), its not the lock/unlock button. Instead, you need to press the switch inside the door jamb, the one that's hit when you close the door, which turns the dome light on & off.

As soon as you know this, the reprogramming is quite simple.

Not at my car right now obviously, but the door switches tend to be up near where the door hinges with the car body, it is just a little push in stick, surrounded by what looks like a round piece of accordian rubber. If it isn't up front, check near the back of the door sill, I think I have seen it there on some cars.

Basically, just a little pin about the diameter of a pencil.

mat.... instead of the SWITCH open and close the driver side door 3 times....
