I've gotten my car about 5 days ago and ive noticed that it gets dirty really easily.. i have a yellow 2002 p5 and i have been washing it everyday because every morning when i look at it there are dirt spots or 100 bugs stuck on the front bumper.

what do you guys do or use to keep your cars clean?

what ive been doing is i go to this car wash place you put in 1 dollar in quarters and you spray on soap and rinse.

wow, OCD. hehe.

One thing though is right when i got the car there would be some orange spots every now and then, after a month I'm not seeing those anymore.

BE VERY CAREFUL WASHING YOUR CAR every day!!!! if you got the yellow p5 .. 99% of them do not come with a clear coat and if the car is brand new .. you will do more damage then good

oh yeah, alot of the people who report crappy paint with the yellow, making chips in the paint really easily, might want to get that clear film sprayed on the front

Gee I thought I was anal about my car's cleanliness!

Wash once a week. That's all you need unless you drive through dusty or dirty roads.

Don't use those automated carwashes. And those high pressure hoses.......I hate 'em. They're good if you got mud caked on but for the car's finish they're murder. It removes any wax you got on the finish.

Use ordinary garden hose to rinse the car. Then use a good quality carwash soap applied with a soft sponge. Rinse again after you've worked the soap all over the car. Now here's the secret to a nice car finish without the hard work. I use Eagle One's spray on wipe off wax. You spray it on a wet car one section at a time. Then, you dry that section off. Do that until you've done the whole car. Oh! Don't use it on the windows. Use Armor All window cleaner or wipes. Presto! A waxed car every week without busting your arms with the wax-on-wax-off routine. :) Works for me! Takes me about an hour to wash/wax my car. BTW, having a nice coat of wax means bugs simply wipe off or ricochet off the car.

Thanks for the tip, Rouge. I will definitely be picking some of that up!

As for the clear coat, I have the yellow, and want to get the clear coat. I assume the dealer does this, correct? Anybody do this already? Cost? Time they have the car?

Thanks!

i dunno... my yellow P5 is about 6-7 months old... have close to 10,000 miles on it already... did a 5000+ mile road trip from NJ to AZ and back... not a single chip or blemish in the paint... is still shiny as when i bought it new off the lot with 11 miles on the odometer... i take it in for a hand wash once a week... i'm probably gonna have it detailed and waxed before the winter season starts... i guess i'm one of the 1% that got the clearcoat and/or good paint... i did get a TON of bug splats all over the front bumper and windshield along with lots of dirt/dust buildup especially on the rear windshield right under the roof spoiler during the AZ roadtrip...

later,

talking about cleaning of our lovely car
just wondering did you guys use any rim cleanser to clean their rim???
and i wonder what brand you guys use and will those chemcial harm the brakes??
thx

ok, this is what ive done:

i went to wallmart and i bought 12 terry towels, a bottle of "fastwax" (the spray on and wipe off like mentioned on the previous post), armor-all spray-on rim cleaner and armor-all dash wipes.

i went to a carwash(not automatic one), sprayed soap all over the car, rinsed all of it, applied the fastwax like the instructions stated, same with the rim cleaner.

when i got home the rim cleaner had gotten on the tire and breaks from when i rinsed it off and it turned them kind of white, so i took a brush and rubbed it with soap and it came off. the wax made the car look a little better but i got the same kind of water spots when it rained, and same ammount of bugs on the front bumper. i guess ill try a different brand wax.

Sonkinglo,

I don't want the rims to fog, so I just use soap and water to clean my rims. Cleaners might cause problems if used consistently.

really?? um.....i don't know...cause i just want my rim to shine...cause mine is not polished rims..i don't think there are polished rim in canada...and if those cleanser cause problem then i'm not going to use it...don't wanna harm it...i love my rims, love my car..=)
