K&N TYPHOON PROBLEM

Attention all Typhoon users. Check your throttle body tubes to make sure that they haven't been rubbing against the master cylinder. I noticed today that due to the close proximity of eachother, my throttle body tube nearly has a hole worn in it, due to contact being made with the master cylinder.

Anyone else?

I had the same probleme when i installed it the first time. Be sure to push the corner tube that go in the trotle body so there is no space between the 2. This should give the space necessary to prevent anyway rubbing against the master cylinder.

It's in all the way, there's a gap(not much), but I think it's the motor rotating.

I had this same problem initially. Try loosening the connections in front of the mass airflow sensor and push every thing in as tight as possible there. Also try lifting up the intake tube at that bend where it rubs and then tighten everything back up. Should be fine.

descriptive pics would be helpful. i plan on installing my typhoon sometime this week.....

Hopefully this will help - Refer to the 2nd photo for what we're talking about here (the space between the master cylinder and the throttle body tube). The fist one is the typhoon as a short ram.

I see red on your master cylinder, is that from the install?

Yeah, mine was rubbing a bit after the install. I took it for a drive afterwards and I could feel a vibration through the brake pedal at idle. I just had to loosen all the clamps and re-position everything a bit so it wouldn't rub. No problems anymore - hasn't moved.

God, mine is friggin BAD!! I'll try to get some pics up. It's almost worn through, about the size of a nickle.

Never had this prob with mine. the only prob i did have was when i first installed the CAI i took it to the track and the shock from shifting actually loosened the clamps farther downstream and the last two sections of piping actually came apart leaving a small gap between them. from that point on i made sure that i kept a set of allen wrenches in the car for adjustment purposes.

for anybody who runs the typhoon as a CAI did you have any probs w/ the last section of piping rubbing against the frame(where the hole in the frame is where the filter goes down into the wheel well? i had this happen and it rubbed away some paint from the intake. i found that the rubber mount piece which is attached to the frame and supports the lastsection of piping was too short. anyone experience this? so to remedy i used an extra nut to raise the rubber bushing piece. id like to get a taller rubber/screw to negate the extra nut i'm using. where can you buy these. would the mazda dealer have one. i could buy one from my work but i don't want to pay BMW prices for parts...even for small parts.

well i looked at mine and it clears that metal piece just fine, i took some pics if anyone realy wants them let me know.

When I had it as a CAI I noticed the same deal with the rubber washer being too short (the filter was actually resting on the inside of the wheelwell) so I remedied it the same way you mentioned. As far as the piping rubbing against fenderwell - no matter how perfectly you position it (centered) that metal bracket doesn't seem to keep it place no matter how hard you tighten it. Regardless, I just switched to short ram and found it to be more responsive in everyday driving applications. You should try it out since you have that option.

Holy s***, that's pretty bad !! didn't you feel the vibrations coming from the brake when it's depressed at idle ? did you have any success re-positioning it ?

so thats what the ******* vibrating sound is?!?!?! i installed mine last monday and i started hearing the vibrating on saturday. porkchop sandwiches!! i better get out there and adjust it.

I never felt, or heard any vibrations or sounds, it doesn't rest on the MC, but I think on hard throttle the engine moves enough between gears to make the two contact?? I even reved the piss out of it from under the hood, and couldn't hardly get the 2 to come together. It's gotta be between gears. Anyhow, K&N will be replacing the tube.
