Jut Got E-mail Fom INJEN - CAI for MSP Finally out !!!

Hell...even I Love your MAZDASPEED!!

*edit*
I should add more... :D

I'm still learning...that's why I'm gonna go the safe route. In all honesty if I was going show car, though, and had more experience I would use a crossbreed of Memphis' 03speed's because they look really nice. I'd probably do a heat sheild, too. But for right now all I can do is use my analytical background to figure out what's best for me.

if i remember correctly, everyone and their mother with a mazdaspeed was bugging the turds out of spicymsp regarding the availability of the injen... now that it's out, you all are complaining about how much it's gonna cost. if you want to play, you gotta pay. you want injen's sweet looks, pay for it. you want a dyno proven intake, pay for it. if you want to make your own, pay for it. but by golly, don't b**** about it. you all make yourselves look like a bunch of whiny pissants. if you want it, buy it... if you don't, don't. stop complaining about it already. [end rant]

my first rant... ever... i must be in a pissy mood or something. oh well.

Jeez! AGR are you Memphis' vendor?!? LOL!

Here's my take on the CAI and benefits thereof...(again)
1)Air is colder...doesn't always help if you're taking in engine temp air, just more of it. The compressor can compress more air if it's colder. Simple thermodynamics...it'll only compress so much before it reaches a saturation point.
2)Remember...we're also removing a good length of pipe that's plastic and replacing it with a shorter aluminum pipe. Hence...less ambient heating, less travel time (inherent relationship)...fewer losses in general (03speedLSD has the right set-up)
3)I don't know of any mandrel bending specialists in my area that can do this crap...and if I did, chances are I wouldn't get it done for too much less.
4)DO WHAT YOU WANT! STOP SHITTING ON WHAT I WANT TO DO!
Sorry for the temper explosion...but, come on...haven't we had this discussion before? I'm just saying that people should expect this kind of a price. Pawn your ideas off all you want, but there's no reason to tell or even insinuate that someone is a moron for chossing the safe option.

In closing...can't we all just get along?:D

This is the reason I was half tempted to say "screw them, let them learn the hard way, I'll just worry about my car" a couple of weeks ago. It is also the reason that people in the know stopped helping out as much on the DSM boards too..

Yes it will cool the intake air. Yes, colder intake air will cram more air into the compressor.. Now do the real world tests of what you get for $300... On paper it looks good. Hell, the MSP looks good on paper, but falls short of what is expected (aside from handling :) )..

it is not all about HP gains on the dyno (which 12-15 is hard to believe, but I won't argue it)- it is where the power is, how it comes on and what the overall curve looks like.. If it happened to be 12 hp at 6500 rpm's- do you think you would ever notice it? If it is 12 hp a few RPM's sooner because the turbo spooled quicker- do you think that would help the over all power band of the car?

Jeeze is right :).. There are so many people who know what the hell they are doing that won't touch this site with a ten foot pole because no one wants to listen to what will really work. I know, I have met a few. They just keep to themselves and thier cars and kick neon butt on a daily basis by themselves :).. It's a loss for the group as a whole..

You make some valid points tonkabui. There is some whining going on but there is also some great discussion going on as well. There has been a few different schools of thought on this mod for quite some time and they are finally coming to the surface. There has been, and will be, a ton of people who are dying to get this mod in hand that have done no complaining one way or another. I actually appreciate this discussion and have benifited from sifting through some of the crap to get a few good pieces of information. Keep up the coversation!

Damn, all this talk about the Injen is making me want to put my stock airbox back in and kick all of your butt's with a stock filter :).. Muwhahahahahah....

i agree with you heathen,

there are some good points on wether or not the cold air intake (in this case is made by injen) would yield the same results as that of a homemade fabrication or that of no modification at all because of the inherent nature of turbo systems. but that in itself should be the discussion, not how injen is trying to rip people off or ass **** them or whatever. that holds no validity in either "school of thought."

Ok people wtf? Why do you persist in doing this? Thread after countless thread. Im not holding any of the info back from you! seriously patience is a virtue. I had that part number and I know the colors it will be available in. I also posted that it would be in the 300 range. Seriously this is unbelievable.
Im glad you emailed paul, because he just called me on the phone, and needed a measurment on the prototype intake hose. PLease people!! End this bulls***, Im trying so hard here, and getting nothing in return. I dont need to do this.. I already have mine.

and...
If we go through this vendor im working with, he is going to give us a "CLUB DISCOUNT".When the time comes, please send me your money to MY address, I will send him one big check... and he will send me the Intakes that i will ship out from here.

The one constant thing you can expect from this board (and to tell you the truth any other board out there!) is bitching, moaning, groaning, and whining!
Personally, I am going with the Injen. Yeah, I could fabricate something myself, but personally I don't have the time right now.
As for price, look at it this way there are other cars out there that have just as expensive intakes as well -
My husbands Spec V when it first came out didn't have a lot of parts for it and the AEM CAI was like $250 shipped (I am sure it is cheaper now - but then it wasn't).
So if you wait a couple of years then maybe it will be $50 cheaper or something like that. Which I doubt anyone will wait that long! I mean come on!
SpicyMSP and ForceFed - you guys are doing a great job! All of us (and even those who don't want the damn thing) appreciate all that you have done! No one is upset with you all about the price. It is not in you hands to the retail price. Don't let the crap that you have to read though on these boards get to ya. I doubt that anyone here (even those that b****) think you are to blame on price or on the time it takes for these to be sent to the vendors.

Indeed I will. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM THREADS LIKE THIS!! It upsets me, it is totally un necissary. TRUST ME!! I WILL LET YOU KNOW!!! AHHHHH

you guys are killing me!

kwik I agree with you wholeheartedly about not wanting to get involved in things on forums (especially over on the DSM forums I've been in an argument about injectors for like a week now) but sometimes the people who know what their talking about need to keep trying even if it goes to extreme measures, I'm tempted to try both methods and dyno them for a comparison, if people can wait a couple weeks then thats what I'll do

Hehe- what is the injector argument? Are you the guy saying you need new injectors or the guy saying stock ones will work? I have gone 11.9's on stock injectors and 12.20's on a stock fuel pump :).

Ok lemme ask you all a question. How does a COLD AIR INTAKE benefit a boosted car ? I mean, you take cold air in, run it through a hot ass turbo, (talkin bout at least an 80 degree increase, then through an intercooler that cools it down to the ambient air temp. (maybe not our intercoolers are that efficient, but you get my drift.)

What I am trying to say is, for turbo cars, the most efficient way to get air to the car is with a short ram, the air gets heated by the turbo anyways, so take the hotter air in from the engine bay, as its a shorter path to run, and let the IC do its job.

For me, I am going to do a custom job, with a fiberglass, or carbon fiber heat shield. and yes I will dyno it, and I know a little about air flow characteristics to make it an effient piping.

The answer: Cooler air equals denser air. There is no argument to that fact. Sure the turbo is heating it up, but it's compression of the air that heats it up. Now, would you like to heat up hot thin air, or cooler, denser air? Personally, I would rather draw cooler air from the fenderwell then warmer air from the engine compartment.

I'm not slamming anyone who wants to buy an Injen intake. It's just the cost isn't worth the guessed/reported hp benefits. Sure it looks good, but something that can't be seen unless the hood is opened isn't what I'm after.

I can feel the benefits of my home made CAI, it spools quicker and it feels a bit peppier off the line to mid range rpm. I can also hear the turbo spool up now, and the sound of the bypass valve is much more noticeable. Like I said, I'll post pics when I get home tonight.

BTW, one thing my CAI didn't do was cure or cover up the stumble or hesitation most of our cars suffer from in the mid rpm range. Pisser.

If you're talking about dsmtalk I'm XiR_Eclipse over there, so pretty much telling the guy that he should be safe and get 720's he's looking for 11's and over 400hp to the wheels in a 2g so I told him 720's or 850's to be safe and get a dsmlink to tune it with that way in case he ever want's more upgrades or gets a bad tank of gas or something he won't have to worry about running lean. Better safe than sorry.
