2003 Black Mica Mazdaspeed #34
So, I went to see my Mazda dealer down in Urbana, to see if they are Mazdaspeed certified and ask about the flash. My dealer back home is great, and has it, but I'm not going to be back north for sometime. Anyways, I was talking to Dan the Sales Rep, asking about some MSP things. He just mentions, off-hand, that "my friend has a MSP, black like yours but it's a 2003 (apparently since I said I had bought mine a month and a half ago he thought it was a 2003.5, which as we know is impossible, but not to Dan). He says there's a chip you can buy to make the car do 245 hp..." (hmm)

Is this the chip that says "go to a dodge dealer, buy an srt-4, do not pass go, do not collect 200$?" (uhm)

I'm real willing to bet if this magical mystery chip exists, we'd have heard about on the board. Plus, isn't our ECU friggin' tough to crack and mod?

I kept my mouth shut, since I wanted to just go to the service department, and obviously this guy was a nimrod. But I couldn't resist asking him about the flash. "I hadn't heard about that." (hand)

Neither had the service department. I'll just wait two more weeks and do it at home, where they can honestly say "okay, there's my ass, and over there, that's a whole in the ground."

lol, that's great. I feel your pain too -- every damn dealership I've ever been to has been worse than worthless.

I'm sure no such "chip" exists or we would have heard about it -- hell this guy didn't even know that there is no such thing as a black 2003.5.

This was one thing I missed about my GTI (traded it for the MSP of course)...there are like four or five companies that have chips that you could spend $500 bucks on it and they would take you to 215 hp and 235 ftlb(any where from .8 bar to 1.2 bar) Most companies now just re-flash through the obdii and never raised the hood. they had options like enabling different boost programs through the cruise control stalk. they were very easily tuned...someone need to crack this msp..:D

i hear WRX boys talk about these chips that increase the boost...

there was a guy at importmix car show with a wrx and a chip...cant remember the manufacturer

but, as for the chip, you dont need it...you can get at least that hp by getting your ECU flashed at the dealership with the new fix

Perhaps I could combine the flash AND the chip, and have a 911 killer. Oh yeah.

Yah most engine managment upgrades for the WRX have boost control abilities. UTEC, Unichip, and Cobb tunning provides custom flashing for the stock ecu. Would be nice to have a tunner like Cobb for the MSP...

Yeah, and it would be nice to have all that World Rally experience behind the MSP too.....
