Just put on my K&N filter PICS INSIDE

Ok I took all you advice and bought a filter like RuggedMazda. It doesnt have the same sound as the K&N and it doesnt feel any different. It went from a nice blow off sound to something that really does resemble a turkey. I will most new pics when I get a chance. BTW its yellow to match the car.

Nice,

What's with the picture of your Boyfriend???:wtf: (butthump)

It's legal now but I was just wondering??

I thought maybe you wanted to be my boyfriend the way you follow my threads around. Sorry, but I am into women. Maybe send a pm to someone else and try again-

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!! (lol)

I want one of these new Filters!!!! Someone point me in the right direction to buy one!! Thanks~!!!

You have to make a heat shield. Look at my signature/picture of what I had made - no hot air goes on the filter, it is 100% blocked.

Oh.... so this doesn't come this way?

I want one too!! How much and where can I get one?:p

Here it is.......

At least; I think this is the correct one. It's on page 2 of their Intake Systems on that link.

This must be the one RuggedMazda is using.

I wonder if he is just letting the air temperture sensor dangling..

$65.00 here....http://www.cruzingzone.com/product.asp?sid=30

The Evolution filter is the most advanced filter with heat shield protection. The AC Evolution filter shield is made from quality aluminum, with choice of aluminum or carbon shield. The Evolution filter was developed to produce more horsepower and with the added feature to protect from engine heat, thus allowing cold air the retain to the filter. The aluminum top velocity stack is designed to enhance more productive air flow. The AC Evolution filter is a dual ram air filter, which is the next generation of high performance filtration.

I still say go with a cold air. I had a conical K&N w/ heatshield in my mustang and replaced it with a fenderwell kit(cold-air) and picked up 3 tenths and 16rwhp!!!

i had a heat shield......metal seems to heat up faster, it absorbs the heat that is thrown by the fan......hot air still gets inside.

this was my setup:

still sucked ass, even compared to stock airbox.

Well, after reading this and a billion other pieces of info I've decided to get panel filters for my Maxima and MSP.
My Maxima goes through 3, yes, three, paper air filters each year. I anticipate the MSP will do the same.

AJ-USA has a good sale going on K&N stuff right now. Good prices and free shipping.
KN 33-2134 Item: K&N 33-2134: Replacement Air Filter
Fits: 2003 MAZDA Protege 2.0L L4 F/I $29.39

Yep! That's where I bought mine too.:D

wouldnt hot air help the turbo to compress (and heat) air?

Nope.

In perfect isentropic compression (pardon my thermo lingo) , basically if you had perfect turbocharger with perfect efficiency, if you compress the air you would get 0 deg. temp rise. Hotter air takes more work to compress, i.e. your turbine has to extract more work from the exhaust gas to give more work to the compressor so it can compress the gas to the same pressure ratio if the air is cooler. If you want more detail about this take a thermo/fluid class :D.

About heat shield for the cone filter, I had a though, the heat shield is basically a heat sink to absorb the engine bay heat and prevent it from reaching the cone filter, but there must be a way to extract that heat off the heat shield. I think some sort of heat radiation design is needed to make the heat shield a viable option.

Final note, I do like the idea of that DGM CF hood with that NACA duct thing. Don't know how well it performs but it does look like a cool idea.

I have no idea how you have that old as image in a bitmap and not jpeg or gif. I think we should have a talk about image compression sir.

Also: My K&N filter pannel is in the mail, woo!

The Stick is GONE. I think he had too much of the Flaming thing.

Get a heat sheild. I say K&N filter panel is the best value. You might not hear a loud turkey but doesnt it perform better?

I would have just waited for AEM to come out with a SRI. AEM better not ditch on me cuz I'm saving up and should have enough money by late Feb.
K&N doesn't make a SRI except for the Typoon (CAI/SRI)...which is like $600

You can get a Injen CAI but I want to stay away from CAIs.

Your not gonna lose power. I ran that setup for about 4 months. Take it from a guy that ACTUALLY had it. You'll have increased throttle response plus when the car is in motion you not sucking 1000 degree air. If your really that concerned get the heatshield or remove the weatherstripping in the back.

I'm running the flat panel K&N, 33-2134. It does fit despite what someone said before.
I felt it was a little louder, but didn't really notice any performance gains. There may be some, but i'm not about to dyno it to find out.
I figure it saves me the cost of replacing crappy paper filters every year anyways.
I've had a K&N of some sort on all my cars.

Not to flame you here Notorious, but do you have different #'s to prove your theory? This topic has been discussed to death, and people like Dr. Sound have dyno'ed all the options. All testing indicated a loss of HP and torque? I remember Joe P stating the same thing some tme ago when he had his MSP as well.
