Just put on my K&N filter PICS INSIDE

more hp because its louder? thats like saying those civics w/o a resonator run 95469546986whp.

actually, the stock airbox just muffles all that sound. thats why you are hearing it now.

sure, it may be getting more air, but some of that air with be hot air, decreasing performance. shrug.

you will loose horsepower with that setup. Block the heat from that fan dude. I tried it as well and my car ran like crap in 3rd gear.

Im not saying its getting more HP cause its louder

but back to real world perf. if the car is in motion traveling in 3rd gear the windspeed is greater than the fan can blow-proven over 40 MPH so how wouldnt the air be colder? I mean most electric fans only come on in traffic when ur idle. I (personally) have never seen any of my cars fans come on while cruising at >40 MPH

I like the open conical style, so my questions are this -

1. Does anyone know if any manufacturer makes an open end filter with a heat shield?

2. If no one currently makes an open end filter with heat shield what is the K&N replacement filter part # to drop into the stock airbox?

Thanks!!!

On track you won't lose any power since you are in motion all the time however on every day stop and go traffic you will lose power.

sigh. just search meatstick.

just making statements bro, thats all. And as far as stop and go traffic, I am more go than stop I dont live in the city. and most of my driving is at night or early moring.

Alright I have a question about fuel cut. If the cone style air filter allows hot air into the intake you would lose hp on warm days with high boost (12-15) right? But on cold days you would actually be better off because the cold air is so dense that is causes the fuel cut. There for the hot air the cone would suck in would allow for higher boost on cold nights. I do know about the FCD but this might work also. Once again I do not know much about the topic just a question.

1. AEM is supposed to if they ever come out with their product. http://www.msprotege.com/vbb225/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39773&highlight=aem+update

2. K&N part # 33-2134 http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/knfilt...a/google-200205

There ya go.

I had the K&N filter & yes it sounded great, but after hearing & seeing that dyno about the power lost,
I put my stock box back in. I then installed the panel filter & that felt better, but not by much
So I found this new filter with shield & this seems to work great. Now with the colder air the car is pulling hard. I did post about this filter before, but here is a pic..

K&N dynoed my car when they were prototyping a Typhoon CAI.
stock airbox - 153hp
k&n cone filter on MAF - 142hp

anyway u do it u will loose. i had an elbow made that kinda put the filter next to the battery, still there was power loss.

u are better off getting a CAI, or a panel filter like people suggested.

oh, forgot to say, i had a heat shield put onto the filter......only brought up the hp 5-6 points........but it was always below the hp of the stock airbox.

Nope, hot air is a bad thing. Hot air contains less oxygen, which means on a car like this that you run even richer than before. That is why people see such a drastic loss of HP using just a filter on the MAF the MSP.

what would be neat to make is an inlet for the stock airbox that vents to cold air. Maybe I'll do this next week and do some chassis dyno pulls.

Ok I took all you advice and bought a filter like RuggedMazda. It doesnt have the same sound as the K&N and it doesnt feel any different. It went from a nice blow off sound to something that really does resemble a turkey. I will most new pics when I get a chance. BTW its yellow to match the car.
