I don't no which sounds better, with or without the header. I think I would reserve judgemnt until I hear it in real life. I hardly think my $2 computer speakers do either setup justice. They both sound loud though. How is the daily driving with the header? Has anyone posted dyno sheets yet? What about the odd noises, did anyone get a definative answer on that?

YA the weard noise is the exhaust leak that i have, it is coming from where the header meets the engine block. Nick is sending me out a new header to replace the one that i have on now. hopefully the new one will work better. i think that the reason that i had a problem with the first one is because when they fabricated the flange to the tube cyelenders the weld deformed the flange.he checked the new one and it looks flat to him so hopefully i will be in buisness again. i am going to hot import nights this weekend so hopefully i get it before friday so that i can put it on. i also have some 6000k hid lights coming.
next modification cosworth intake manifold. look for new thread have some ?s on it.

Use some high temp RTV on both sides of the header gasket. This is an old hot rodder's trick, as well as a NASCAR trick (well, common knowledge). It will seal up to a 800 hp 358, it'll work on yours. Get the red stuff.

Also, is the gasket material a flattened steel piece, paper, or graphite?
the factory gasket may work better then one they supplied.

You still have to have a perfectly flat flange to start with.

is that what people are having problems with? the flange area is warped? people were so stoked about the header and now...??...

Ive put my stock manifold back on a few weeks ago.. The flange that meets the block was warped and there is a fitment issue with the flex/collector pipe area.. They will be redoing the headers soon. I am sure the next batch will be spot on.

You shouldnt have to use RTV on a header install. There is obvious issues the their product. Send it back.

hey rtv held my focus exhaust system togther. although i wouldn't recommend going that route for long term. (even though i did it)

yeah, i'm sure it did. But we are talking a new product mated up to a new motor. Fitment should be perfect.

key words are "should be". i mean rtv works fine but you should probably look into making it fit perfect without the help of rtv.

Ya hopefully the new one for me will be perfect but if not i will try making the gasket. with the old one i tryed using the high tempature gasket lube and it still didn't work the exhaust just blew right through it.

The flanges being warped was a Quality Control (QC) issue at the shop that manufactures the headers for us. They either didnt check each flange before shipping the headers to me, or the workers didnt put enough effort into grinding the flanges level. Up until this batch of Mazda3 headers, we never had a problem on our line of Duratec Focus headers, using the same design of flange.

The lower 3-bolt flange issue will be resolved this Saturday A.M. We have installed one of our headers onto a local Mazda3s Sedan and will be redesigning how our header mates to the flex pipe. We cannot make it one long piece like the factory unit, so we will still have a seperate header and flex section. This new design may entirely do away with the lower flange, thus eliminating any possibility of the flange hitting the steering rack unit heat shield.

The good thing is that power gains are where we expected them to be on the 2.3L engines. with WHP gains of 11-13 on a Mazda3 that had SRI and Cat Back exhaust. The new design of header will not change the power you should expect to see. We are doing everything we can to have this new version of header released to the public (after thorough testing) ASAP.

I just put the header on last week and it sounds awesome but when im stopped at a light, theres a rattle that is really getting on my nerves. Has anybody had this problem and could you possibly tell me how you fixed it.

Srry didnt specify... The rattle is coming from underneath the car and not the slight whistle from under the hood ive herd people talking about.

could it be that steering rack clearance issue and you are hearing the header vibrating against it at low rpms? does it sound metal to metal?
