Hello everybody, I just bought a 2003 MP5. I found this message board while in the process of finding/buying the car and I must say it's been most helpful. I got this to be a daily driver so I could park my truck for a weekend toy.

Well it's a 03 MP5 in Lazer Blue with 40,000 miles. THe previous owner had installed a TWM short shifter, AEM SIR, and some sort of Axle back exhaust.(is there any way to tell who made this exhaust, the prior owner didn't know)
Anyway this is stuff I had thought about doing anyway so it's a bonus for me. (headbang)
I gotta say this car drives great, a big difference from what I'm used to.(rofl2)
Heres some pics of my new ride and what its taking daily driver duties from:

Nice rides. Get a picture of the axle back. Someone on the boards can probably tell you what kind it is.

congrats...love the color...welcome!

your truck looks like it could use a good alignment by the way...:P

thanks guys I am really liking this car to. The blue was a huge selling point. Although I have liked the MP5 since they came out, the Blue color I have been in love with since the civic si came out in 99 with that basic color. Since then more and more cars have gotten it, I am just glad I got one.

Thanks I love my tacoma, it has seen 167,000 miles and it earned everyone of them. I have beat the hell out of it and it has done awsome.

Here are pics of the axle back, I can take more if need be. I'll take some engine bay shots tomorrow.

Laz0r blue is an awesome color, ain't it? As for the axle back, it almost looks like the racing beat cat back from a mazdaspeed protege or an MP3, but it's got a) really neat welds (you have to cut the sedan ones to fit on the 5), and b) no markings on it. How loud / deep is it? It could be just a tip.

upon closer inspection, it looks like the pipe coming into the muffler is stock. Could just be a really well done custom job...

Welcome and Enjoy your stay....lots of good info to be found here and great people as well!

Most excellent choice. I agree, that looks like a custom muffler job. No laser etching on the tip and it's not part of the muffler itself it seems.

thanks guys :)
after looking under the car yesterday I did notice that the exhaust tubing looked rather stockish. It sounds pretty good, just a nice low note, it gets louder at wot. Anywho how restrictive is the stock piping? Is it even worth getting new piping or a new setup all together, any "real" power to be gained?
The less loud the better for me.
thanks again.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people and info here.

BTW, if you like the way your current muffler looks & sounds, I can sell you the
S-pipe & resonator sections and you'll have a completed cat-back.
Check out the Thunder products thread in the Authorized vendor section.

thanks. So how will your s pipe & resanator combo affect the sound? Looks like a great setup. I may be interested down the line sometime. Also I see your setup replaces the 2nd cat, I live in eco nazi cali, will I have any problems with passing smog?
Thanks again

Only the three-piece, header-back replaces the second cat (I'm talking about the pieces before, not including, the muffler section). The two-piece does not. Unless you have a header, too, it will not increase the volume significantly.
Just a little more rumble and a lot better flow.

here's an engine bay shot as requested. Seems to me the intake is right in the heat zone, but thats the difference between CAI and SRI. Plus my SRI seems shorter than others I have seen pics for, is it for an auto tranny?
Thought about rotating the tubing in the couplers some to aim it down some but that would put it right behind the fan, forced hot air induction (freak).
