Lucky you lives in Florida..

It'll cost you a little money, but better than what insurance will charge you!

You can go to drivers class..

I got my first ticket in florida for running a stop, took it to court, took a class, and it was $10 cheaper than the actual ticket.

Of course it's also dependant on the judge, but hopefully some one who has recently gottne a speeding ticket in Fla. could help you!!

I got a speeding ticket last week, it was my first in a year so I can go to school and take the points off my license, 96$, the lady made me pay 88$ including the class

Do you guys know if you can fight a fix it ticket for an exhaust? I have an HKS axleback. I just don't want to have to go to court more than once.

http://www.motorists.org/ surf the site for some great information on fighting tickets
...

definitely fight it.. check around the web for your local laws, but you can request the calibration records, training records and the officer's log for that day.. under discovery or something like that.. if they don't provide that information, you can argue in court that you don't have the information needed to fight the case and request the case to be dismissed.. it may not be enough, but it's a good argument...

another thing, when yo uget your court date, always request a continuance. the first date that is scheduled is usually always convenient for the police officer (all of his/her tickets are that day). however, if you request a continuance, you increase chances of the police offcer not showing up.

finally, do check on CA law about 40/55 in industrial zones.. i'm sure the laws are online, .. just search.. you can also call the california DMV to find out.

if you are really determined to not have this ticket on your record, order the 'legal aid kit' from national motorists association (www.motorists.org)... they will send info about CA laws, radar, and a lot of useful information on what to do to fight your ticket... it's not too cheap (that kit), but it's less than your ticket :)

the ticket seems so BS anyway... it's nothing but raising revenue. i mean, one thing if you were doing 60 in a 35, but if you were doing 45 in a 40, that's not worth ticketing. so fight it!

One of the main things the cops seem to forget is that their duty is to uphold the law not make the law. The HKS exhaust may be carb sertified and be legal in all states, but you have to prove that in court to fight the ticket.

I hadn't heard of a law that said 55 in a 40 business zone was legal. All I can say is that cops can make the radar detector be what they want it to be. After all, they're the only ones that can see it.

Perhaps build a case around the fact that there aren't any speed limit signs in the area? A friend of mine won a case that way a long long time ago. And since no speed limit signs were posted on the stretch of road he was traveling and he was doing a moderate 45, he was cleared of the ticket and the charge.

CA law is pretty clear... any exhaust which has a larger tip than stock or modified to be louder is illegal :(

Something like that depends on what limits are set when no signs are posted..

Here in Toronto, 50 Km/h on main streets and 40 in residential, 80 on highway's/country roads, of course unless posted otherwise..

What if the exhaust was offered as an accesory by the manufacturer, like the Mazda speed exhaust?

I have no idea, but if I had to guess, I'd say the car would have to be driven off the lot with the Mazda Sport exhaust already installed as a dealer accessory

that's just a guess

Yeah, I remeber the law being an exhaust can't be louder than 98 db. Then they changed it so you can't even put an exhaust on, but people were telling me otherwise.

Dallas: sounds like you should get a lawyer. I am not sure about your state, but in many states, that kind of speed is cause for suspending/revoking a license.

I am suprised you were not charged with reckless driving and/or reckless endangerment.

I hope you were going that fast late at night when no other cars were around. If you weren't, I'd have ticketed you for reckless driving.

You talking to me (the guy that was doing 45) or to that guy that was going 120??
I thought going over 100 mph was a federal offence.

Thanks to everyone else for the tips on fighting the ticket. I am definitly going to fight it, and hope for the best. Worst case I will take traffic school, and not have it on my record.
