Just as it says..I just Changed my ECU out w/ an MP3 ecu..and damn does it feel nice...The car has some pep!! I would suggest to anyone who wants some quick hp..and is not going turbo..to do the same!!

As many of you know..I am running a Nitrous Express Kit...50shot...and Just wanted to let people know that i am now approaching the 200hp maker!! W/ out a Turbo!!

geezus .... almost 200hp w/ no Turbo ...

careful, man ... more power to ya... but let's not add you to the list of ..... ( I'm not even gonna say it )

as far as I know its the same engine as the MP3, jsut use the higher octane gas and it should be fine. About the nitrous, thats a different story which I would stay away from but do whatever you enjoy (can afford to fix when you break).

I swapped mine a few month's back...still no regrets!
 
Do I *have* to swap the whole ECU? Isn't there a module or is it just the S/W that makes it different? Can i manually advance the timing a bit?

most mp3 guys i know have blown thier motors with nitrous because of the mp3 advanced timing... be careful man, if you run nos get a mp5 ecu...

but just go FI... its that much power but much more.. ALL THE TIME hehe. ;) :D

Heed this warning man! This is what happened to my 1st engine! Unless you can retard the timing, your motor will be toast soon.
 
man..my car feels slow now hahah Youd be suprised where that 10hp kicks in..right entering the powerband! Oh well, the switch will make for better things in the future!!! (secrets secrets)
 
Hey guys...

Anyone know how much the mp3 advances the timing?

I figure..To get around the problem w/ the advanced timing..I will run 93 octane..as well as NX Booster..But i want to first find out how much the mp3 advances the timing!!

Hey Linux..You were running a dry kit...I am running a wet kit..not to mention a smaller shot than you were running...Also you mention that your kit wasn't installed correctly...

***I haven't run any nitrous yet...want to find out more info!!

Have you ever seen that quakerstate oil commercial. The guy shot his motor out of the hole truck. This could be you. If you are going to do a shot of N20 you need retard the timing. Thats were MSD and a E-management would be good.
 
My kit WAS installed correctly. That didn't save my engine from my DRY shot. I hope you figure this thing out. The one member who had success with the MP3 was a member called "Jayrcr"

I have a protege5...and installed an MP3 ecu in my car...The car is running beautifully...The car has more pep..and i do believe i gained about 5hp..

I currently have ngk spark plugs(1 range cooler installed & gapped to ".35), Sparcko wires, and am running 93 octane in my protege5!

I have a nitrous express kit on my ride...and was wondering if you can give me any information about how much the mp3 ecu advances timing...I downloaded that dyno you guys put up on your site..and it does give me some good information...

The nitrous kit is jetter to a 50shot...It's a wet shot..

Does the MP3 have a knock sensor? Does the protege5 have a knock sensor? How much does the ecu from an mp3 advance timing?

I don't have the timing maps from the MP3 ECU. The timing increase is
probably not x degrees across the board, but far more complex. The amount of
timing increase beyond the P5 will depend on the rpm and the load.

The MP3 does have a knock sensor, but I cannot recommend relying on it on a
regular basis.

Hi Chas,

We have not broken the code on the Protege ECU so we do not know the timing differences between the Protege ECU and the MP3 ECU.

Both cars use a knock sensor.

MSD has not come out w/ anything for the Protege/Protege5/MP3!!

Engine management is out of the question for me...I am not planning to run anything larger than a 50shot!!(Well maybe if i go direct port injection! but still the minum for direct port is 100shot!)

Hey linux...Sorry for my misinformation...but you were running a dry shot...what size?? I know Patio is/was running a 75 shot on a protege5 ecu..So i figure that my motor can take a 50shot wet!

I would if i could afford 3k plus..for a decent turbo...i would jump on it..

You should og to the dynos because the pro5 hp at the wheels is kind of low. I am running a Ingen CAI, 2 1/4 custom exhuast from the cat, Magnicore plug wires, and denso iridium plugs, and all i am getting is 108.3hp at the wheels.

man, thats real low, is ur clutch taking all the hp to ur wheels? something on ur car is robbing u of ur hp, cuz i know i got all of my hp at my wheels, u kinda figure that when the driver of a trans am tells u ur fast ;) but still, i would get that checked out
