I don't use armoral because it tends to collect dirt after awhile. I use Orange Cleaner Degreaser and a little bit of simple green. I sprayed it on the engine wait a few minutes than lightly hose it off with a mist of water. Then for the final touch wipe every inch of metal and hoses in the engine, on some hard to reach areas I use cotton swabs. I highly recommend you only clean your engine when it's cold or else you will get water spots everywhere.

Wow....thanks for the info, I learned something new! I usually just touch up every other day with a wet rag and sometimes I'll get one of those meguiar's shine tissues and go over the hoses. Your right about the "armoral" collecting dirt. Thanks again!

No problem! I'm sure you can get yours as clean as mine. I was looking at my engine and notice the only thing dirty in there is my coolant, it doesn't look green anymore, time to flush that.

Looks good. I'd assume it took so long to clean it because you are fanatic about details. I can appreciate that. Drying everthing can take a while. I pull out my portable air compressor and blow the engine dry after washing. Virtually eliminates the need to use a towel. I also wipe down the rubber hoses with Meguiars shine.

You guys crack me up.
I bought my P5 2.5 months ago, and have only opened the hood 3 times - once when inspecting to buy, once to check the oil before a long trip, and once to change the oil and do 30k check-out.

Oh yeah and in that time I have *never* washed it, underhood or outside either.
I guess it IS time to at least hose it off....

FYI, coolant gets dirty b/c it's picking up crap on the inside of your cooling system, liek in teh radiator, hoses, etc. This is normal. Just flush it.

i hand cleaned my entire engine bay at the car show i was at (the pic in my sig) with my detail spray. got it pretty clean without having any degreasers or anything. im thinkin about pullin that black crap off the bottom of my hood cuz itd look better without it.

Keep in mind, it will make it alot louder for you, and hotter for everything under there. And the hood wil lsound like a tin pie pan when you close it.
You can replace it with dynamat-type material (cheap knockoff) and it looks nicer.

loudness wont be a problem, i cant hear the engine over my stereo anyways lol. as far as heat goes i would think that it would be cooler without that black stuff, isnt that designed to keep heat in? but again im not too worried about that, i dont run the hell outta my car anymore so im not runnin real high engine temps.
i took that off about 20min ago along with my manifold heatshield (it was all dented and cracked from when the engine was swapped.
