Just bought a new CX-70 PHEV

Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a new CX-70 PHEV. Big change, for me since I came from a sedan/import tuner world. Started with an Accord in college, RSX Type S after college, and recently sold my Lexus IS which I had for 12 years and loved. About a year ago, my wife's CRV was totaled and we looked at several models including the CX-70. She ended up going for an Acura RDX but the CX-70 stayed on my mind. I loved the look and with the incentives they were offering this summer, I couldn't say no, I decided to take the plunge. It's my first Mazda but my brother really sold me on them since he had a 3 for 15 years and just bought a brand new 3.

Coming from sportier handling cars, I was very surprised at how this thing handles and goes(when it's charged). I love having all that in a big car. Transmission takes a little getting used to, especially coming from the IS but no car is perfect, Lexus included. The pros of this car outweigh the cons by miles. Long story short, I love driving this as much as my Lexus. I love that I don't see too many of them on the road and I love the quality. We'll just have to see how it goes for the next 3 years and if I keep it or not.

Glad to be here, hope to learn and share!

Welcome and great intro @Blackout70! I bet you're not alone, a lot of us who were into tuning etc are now older and many having started families etc who need something "more practical" for the fam but still long for a sporty look and feel...Mazda's lineup fits that need quite nicely I would say!

The CX-70 with the dark trim is really a sharp looking vehicle...Love the pics and looking forward to your updates!

Welcome @Blackout70! The car looks great with the blacked out trim! I also came from sedan/tuner imports.. I had a couple of Accords and an IS250 as well.

Welcome @Blackout70. What did you use to blackout your rear emblems? My son recently traded his Mazda3 on a CX-70 Premium Plus in Zircon Sand which has the blacked out wheels, mirrors, & door handles. He mentioned he would like to black out the rear emblems like you have done. I'll point him to your pictures to show him how it looks.

Thanks everyone, yea this car definitely makes it easier to get my 3 year old's car seat in and out. @meow_man I used Piano Black HyperDip, very easy to do, just took an afternoon. Was not as glossy as I wanted it to be but a little shinier than the regular dip.

Congrats on the new purchase. Looks really good. (y)

Years ago, for a week I rented a Lexus IS350 and enjoyed how it handled. At the time, that model didn't have AWD, IIRC. It was a blast, and the handling was really something. Have on a couple occasions almost "pulled the trigger" on purchasing an IS250 AWD, but haven't.

With your prior background in vehicles, it will be interesting to see how you feel about the sportier handling aspect as you get experience with the car.

Enjoy.
