Mazda 2 Touring
I just bought my new mazda 2. Wondering if there are any good mods out there for power right now? I don't really want to go above $300-$400 right now though. any help would be appreciated :)

cool thanks. are there any mods out there that arent like $800 that will have noticeable power gains? I've short rammed cars before and it never seemed to do anything

I have a Corksport SRI and it does seem to add a bit more zip. Injen also makes a CAI but I haven't tried it.

i have an Injen CAI on order, once i get it installed ill let ya know if i noticed any difference on the pickup.. a friend of mine has the Injen CAI on his 2010 FIT and he said he noticed it~

I wish I could do an CAI, but it rains way too much here and it'd just be a headache. I'm going with the short ram from corksport, their charts show a slight increase in hp, although I have to admit i'm doing it more for the sound than the 5 extra hp. haha, I can't stand the silenced stock intakes.

Their exhaust system is only $419 and there's no cutting involved! Fits perfectly with the M2 and has a fairly good jump in power. Plus it also sounds awesome.

awesome you should definitely let me know about the cai! i'm not gonna do a cai probably just a short ram from like K&N or maybe even corksport. i didnt like the corksport exhaust the way it sounded at all it wasn't very deep like the HKS ones ive heard. i can't really do the cai cus i live in wisconsin and we get 2 feet of snow sometimes and i drive everyday so that probably wouldn't be a great idea

yup jmac is right...however I think you would want to do all your little things before the flash so it can support your add ons better like exhaust\intake etc.

How simple is it though...dont you have to take the ecu out and send it away for a few days?

Try #2

jmac,
Is the ecu re flash california (CARB) legal or any plans for it to be in the future? 10 whp sounds absolutely incredible on a 100 hp rated car. I trust the tune is conservative but could you go into detail of the contingency factored into the tune? I hope that makes sense: if you have time can you give some numbers or give a detailed explanation of how the tune works? I'm not doubting the legitimacy of the product or anything but 10 whp sounds like a lot for such a small, low horsepower engine, and keeping it as reliable as factory or close to is almost too hard to believe! As well, are any other parameters changed; rev limiter, top speed limiter, abs/stability, etc.? For $450 that's gotta be the best bang for the buck product out there and I foresee staying as such for a long time, I'd love to hear some driving impressions with the tune.

The thought of RB bits, sticky rubber and this tune is making me (breakn)

Lastly, I'm not sure if there is anything to it or if your company has already pursued it but maybe pitch the tune to be a standard mod for the new B spec racing series? I remember reading they were considering ECU flashes as the only permitted power modifiers for the series. The engine and transmission can't be touched (even cats must stay). Which is great as it keeps the series eco and wallet friendly! Then again, they have specific power to weight restrictions in mind per manufacture model but I'm sure there are other bits the tune could address and aid in the 2 racing development.

Cheers,
Colin

well you guys that ordered the parts should definitely post on this threat what they're like when you have them installed! it was funny cus tonight i raced a honda civic around this curvy country road out here and smoked him and my mazda is bone stock haha. he had a stupid fart box exhaust on his. gotta love the stiff suspension on this car. it was probably bad for the motor considering my car only has 600 miles on it ive only had it for a week but it was just too tempting

theres a few threads dedicated to the exhaust and SRI/CAI. all the HKS ive heard sound very raspy. RB and CS both sound very nice for the size of the car.
the only problem i have with the SRI is its position. it will be soaking up some heat (mainly cuz of where i live and summer) but come winter shouldnt be as bad and soon ill make some custom boxes for it.
it does add a better response. it is pretty loud during acceleration but once ur at highway speeds its no biggie. CS suspension bars are amazing for the price too. thatll add control to the zip.

so i was going to purchase the injen cai. the only problem is i live in wisconsin and it obviously snows quite a bit here in winter. now on the website injen says that they have a wrap of some sort that goes over the intake in order to keep water/snow out. would it be a good idea? also would it void my warranty?

anything will void your warranty. butttttt

someone care to explain the ACT and all.

An intake shouldn't void your warranty, but you never know if a dealer wants to be a dick about it. Why not just put the stock stuff back on if you need warranty work? It's probably the nice thing to do anyway as your engine bay will match the pictures in the shop manual better lol.
