Just a ? for you heavy HP hitters out there.

I'm just curious but what kind of HP #s or quarter mile times are people getting with heavily moded MP5s? Do the MP5 guys really do full out builds on these cars?

there have been a few big builders seeing some nice numbers but a lot have backed out in the end...

do a search for the member CWill. I believe he got over 400hp, cant remember.

I'm not a heavy hitter by far but I dyno'd 188 whp back in January without my current turbo-back, catless exhaust and lightweight flywheel. The MP5 is currently waiting on an upgraded turbo, Splitsecond AFC, ATP wastegate actuator, 440 cc injectors and a Walboro fuel pump. I'm hoping to be around 200 whp soon...

pretty sure you will break 200.

Well... what kind of dyno?

Probably any kind. I just go to the dyno meets we occasionally have. I was supposed to get it dyno'd back in mid-June but being the dumbass I am I got into my accident literally the day before (argh). At that time I had already installed the CS exhaust and lightweight flywheel so I was looking to see an improvement - it would have been a dynojet. Once I get the P5 running again and tuned right I'm going to have to make a conscious effort to get it dyno'd - at least to tighten up my street tune a little at WOT.

yes, definitely. Bad tune = 'unpredictable results'.

Dyno time's really not that expensive if you're prepared to utilize it. If you're not great at tuning, have someone you trust who is there with you. In a couple hours on a dyno w/ data logging (boost, AFRs, etc), a decent tuner can fix a loooot of issues.

we have those?

I guess thats my point. I wanted to know if there are any and what are they doin to get there. I'm loving my new MP5 and I guess it would be cool to make it competitive with some other FWD imports out there. And I wanted to know what it would take to lets just say for the sake of argument, beat a turbo'd Civic.

After all I've seen daily driven ones run door to door with a viper and I just personally havent ever seen any Proteges doing anything close to that. Then again I'm new to Proteges BUT not RX7 (naughty)(naughty)

most civics that are turboed i believe would still beat you. from what i hear (correct me if i am wrong) hondas a boost happy and will overpower the protege turbo. in not overpower, there is still the incident of power to weight, that can be more accieveble to a civic...

It all depends on the setup. "boosted civic" and "boosted protege" is as generic as saying "He's stage 2 y0!"

How much would an MP5 weigh if gutted? It can’t be TOO much more than a Civic hatch back, right? But again what kind of power can one expect to get out of a MP5 if fully built? And when I mean fully built I'm talking full internals, large turbo and all drive train. The reason I'm asking this is because once the RX7 is fully done I may want to start a new project and I think a street terror of a MP5 would be cool as hell.

aMaff - LOL come on man why you always got to throw me under the bus? I know I know you're right but come on how the heck am I going to put a finger on a more specific set up considering there’s what, 1000 plus different combinations to make decent power, so pick one :)

I'm just sayin that there’s a lot of potential with a properly built Civic and I want to know if there’s that same potential with a Protege.

How much money you got? It's not going to be AS easy as a civic, but if you're doing a to the absolute limits build, I think you'll have most of the folks on the road in check. I don't know of anyone that has gone that far with it before. And honestly, I'd love to see it (thumb)

Let's put it this way: a 250 HP turbo civic is probably going to be cheaper to build than a 250HP protege.

im trying to get low 15's with my car or high 14's. i ran a 15.7 with awr side inserts, udp, mp3 ecu, ms axleback, and aem intake. ( with stock rims )

now i have obx headers, megan catback, aem intake, udp, mp3 ecu, no vtcs, , thermal spacer, throttle body colant bypass mod , eibach springs, awr side inserts and weapon R engine damper.

the next upgrades im waiting for are fidenza flywheel, new clutch, and progress rear sway bar. i should accomplish what i want with my stock rims.

HAHAHA money, what’s that?!?!?!?!
Well the way I see it is like this.... IF a person is going to drop lets say 5-6k into a civic to make it blistering fast then why not try something different and come up with the same result. I've noticed after reading some things on this forum that it really seams like "most" not "all" are more content on just being average in performance here. I know that we all love bolt on's but what’s stopping you guys from making the car extraordinary? Its not like the technology is new and its not like you're not already spending a butt load on the cars in one way shape or form so how soon before people start stepping up and making some HP beasts out there. There’s no reason that Honda should hold the FWD tuner title any longer! As for my own MP5, yes I would love to be the one to step up and make one very sick ride BUT I'm still trying to recoup my money from building the 7.

Oh and that’s one other thing that I've heard around here is that most people on here wont put that kind of money into the car because why spend 7k on a car that’s only worth 10k well that’s simple BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT!! That’s why. I've spent more money on my 7 then I care to discuss but I'll just say that it’s a mere stones throw away to 50K for me on that car. And I never thought twice about it. And by all means it’s not like I'm loaded, I just love to build cars so I'll do everything I can’t to squeeze every last red cent I can’t to get the parts I want.
